remember the real wheel situation? it turned into a total fiasco today. while riding, thankfully going fairly slowly, the wheel decided to give up. i'm certain i didnt hit anything, it just happened seemingly unprovoked. the postmortem : rim was bent bad enough to hit the tubes on both sides, one brake pad got lodged underneath the rim, the cable had come undone, and the spring for the brake was hanging out the side.

i was lucky. i didnt get thrown from the bike in the middle of the busy intersection when it happened, but it easily could have happened.

and this on the second ride since i picked it up from the shop.

my almost perfect shiny bike in totally usable condition has gone to virtually unridable, in need of costly repairs, and scratched and scuffed up in the matter of approx. one and a half weeks....and it cost me money to get it this way.

and the question(s) --
what wheelset would you suggest?
specs - 350lbs rider, 700c sized wheel, would like to run 35-possibly 40 wide tires. the bike is meant mostly for street use, but i'd like to hit some hard-packed trails as well. would like to get a full pair and would prefer not to spend over 200.. i'd like sealed cartidge style bearings on the hub, and currently use rim brakes, but would like an option for discs in case i want to upgrade. weight is not a concern for me since the engine is so damned heavy to begin with, it wont matter ;)

do you have a preferred wheelbuilder in the area?

advice, repairs
