I spent Monday in the rain hauling in two sail boats off of Lake Champlain. The first one was small and took 5 of us to actually get the thing on the trailer. What was making all this so hard were the winds which were at about 40mph - crazyness. I was in charge on the first boat of lowering the main mast. Well, heh go figure, a big wind caught it while the bolts were released and I went flying off the ground! It came to a crashing BANG on the wooden support, which it smashed to pieces. Thank God nobody was hurt - but I figure not having anything to keep my feet nailed to the ground, there wasn't much I could do.
So after the first boat we get to the tri-maran... which is HUGE. One must take the small rowboat out to it. I watched the first two guys go - who had to be "lifted" to the dock by a guy in a wet suit as the winds had shattered the ramp of the dock. So the first two guys go out, takes forever to row in the winds. One comes back, picks up Mark, and the two of them head out again..... one second I see them rowing. Next I see Mark bailing water, third, they sink. LOL Thank God they both could swim well - and I watched my cousin on the big boat hurl a rope to the two. Took them a while to swim to the catch line, but they made it. I however, had to go rescue the sunken rowboat - which floated upside down to shore, eventually and was banging on the rocks. Into the lake I go fully clothed - up to my knees only thank you very much - and saved the boat, sans one oar which had been shattered like a toothpick.
Interesting start to the week.....
