New York Times: The Costs of Trinidad Carnival
Ungh -- to be honest I never liked going downtown to watch bands play mas when I was a wee girl, because I hate crowds and super-loud things and excessive heat and those are basically what Carnival is all about, lol.
But I used to watch the bands cross the stage from safe at home on the tv, and the jab molassies came to our house once and terrified my sister and me until our dad gave them money and they went away pacified, and this video made me want to go back to T&T something fierce. I miss hearing that dialect. I miss the drive up to Maracus. Even though I know it wouldn't -- couldn't -- be the same as I remember it.
