So This is the Night

Thursday was a terrible day. So many accidents and just a bad vibe. But I just kept my head up knowing Friday night I would see the most fun live band: The Slackers. It was at my favorite venue the grog shop. I would being going with my good friend Jessica, and meeting many other great friends like Taylor and Rich. I was my first concert in 2 months. You cant even begin to imagine how stoked I was for this.

Friday morning comes and its really rainy, windy and colder than a well digger's ass.
I met up with Jessica at 830 am to take care of Kent State stuff such as finally declaring myself as a sculpture major. We got soaked and it made me even more axious for the Slackers; I needed soemthing uplifting and fun to put all this bullshit behind me.

Around 9:30ish Jessica and I make it up to the Grog shop. A cop car was blocking the road we usually take and there were fire trucks next to where we allways park. We were a little freaked out and were not sure what was going on. As we walked to the Grog through the allways next to it, something was amiss. It didnt hit us till we saw all these people standing outside. The power was out. It was still really cold and I left my jacket in the car. We just figured we would wait til the power came on so we got my jacket and got hot chocolate and capacino. I started to get scared that the shittyness of the week was gonna ruin my chance to be happy for one night. Finally Disco Dave (sax player for the Slackers) came out and anounced that the show was moved across town to the C lounge on the west side (Turnes out it was the Sea Level Lounge). So Jessica and I followed Taylor; he brilliantly navigated us to our destination despite haveing no clue where he was really going.

The Sea Level Lounge was this really small bar with several random rooms and an upstairs. The girl at the door was realy trashy looking and gave us really huge X's on our hands but she did set up the show so it was forgiveable. There was no real sound system so all the slackers had was one vocal mic. No instrument mics or fancy sound. Just a small oldschool set up the way it might have been in Jamacia 4o years ago. Jessica and I get right up front in the small room that was lined with mirrors on one side like a strip club. We were right in front of the horn section and Jessica got some really amazing pictures. The vib of the show was so amazing and intimate. The whole floor was the biggest dance party ever. I dont care if you like reggae or not, they are the most fun live band. Jessica gut us both set lists and pics with the band. It truly was better than I could have ever hoped!

That photo was by Jessica. She will also have a Slackers post with more pics
