so we just got back from the island today.
and the whole weekend was amazing.
we left on friday and it was raining and gross. the bus ride was kinda uncomfortable and by kinda i mean alot but i was so tired i somehow fell asleep. and we get on the ferry while it was still a little raining and boats are not a great friend of mine so i was a bit dizzy the whole time. my stomach was ok though. we get to the island Ventotene. and its absolutely beautiful. its still a little drizzly, but it stops completely while we were walking up the hill to our condos. we ended up getting a condo for 7, which was awesome. it was lilliam, ale, claire, frannie, me, alex, and charles. a great group i must say so. the condo was like a house but it had no rugs. and none of us had brought towels so we were a little bit screwed. we all shared my blanket and claire's towel, for the rest of the weekend.
by the time we dropped off our stuff the sun was out and the clouds had cleared and it was magnificient. if you have a chance to go to a small island in the mediteranean you should go.
we got out clothes on and went to the beach, wish was amzing and had rocks and sand your choice to lay on. they had jumping rocks as well and we jumped from them to free fall into the sea. it was awesome. after hanging out there we went back to clean up for dinner and we went to this amazing sea food place right on the port. the food was great as was the wine. i drank a little bit more than usual with dinner because i was so excited to be there. and afterwards we decided to go to this club they have called the "cave' it ended up being lame in my opinion but lilliam and ale liked it. i had too much wine and was incredibly tired so we walked around on the beach at night and ended up at these roman caves they have carved out right along the beack over looking the rocks. it was mesmerizing. we headed back and pased out and woke up the next day. the original plan was to get over to capri but the waters were too choppy the boat got canceled. in the long run i dont think it could have been a better time even if we had gone to capri. that day instead we had pizza on a terrace over looking the port, then we went to the beach and jumped some more, layed out, and eventually rented a paddle boat and swam around that. that afternoon we took a ferry across to the private island and tourred an old prison. it was really cool. we got to take a boat ride around the island and i got really scared when we got close to some rocks. but everything was alright because GioFabio was there.
this is gioFabio: (pronounced joefabio.)
he is obviously a Greek/Roman god who somehow lost his way and is stuck on the island of ventotene.
his girlfriend rode the boat over with us because she was afraid of him hooking up with americans.
god he was so beautiful.
watch him smoke his cigarette
and i just wanted to point out his arms.
they may be strong but he has a sensitive side that can be seen in the tender way he holds his icecream cone.
anyways i ran into him at the creperie and he watched me walk away so i could have had him so easily im sure.
the next day we climbed the other side of the mountain (that was supposedly forbidden) and we found an old roman village. ville giulia. they looked to be excavating it and thats probably why it was off limits but it was amazing. the view from the cliff up there also was also amazing. the whole trip was stunning. my favorite was the caves at night over looking the beach with rocks jutting out and the stars everywhere in the sky.
we left at 4 on sunday and got back into rome around 10. it was lilliam 21st and we celebrated by devouring an entire spanish restaurant in piazza navona. luckily we knew the waiters and spared their lives but theyre gonna have to restock all the food after our visit.
it was a great weekend.
(even if i didnt watch the last 4 episodes of sex and the city...hear that MEGAN?)
love and miss you all.
