Presentation day

Mar 20, 2006 20:06

Oufa.

As of right now, I've been awake for 36 hours. I got up on Sunday to run the last few experiments of a series, which I was already not keen on doing (I prefer to have weekends be work-free). Then I had to prepare a talk for presentation to the other grad students today. I seriously misunderestimated (sic; thanks GWB) how long that would take me, and I worked straight from ~13:00 Sunday to 7:30 today. Beurk. At 4:00 am, I went out to get some food. "Food". McDonalds was the only place I could find that was open. I bought the chicken burger, because I figured it was the lesser of many evils, but I discovered these funny "chunks" in it. I don't know what 'giblets' are, but the word sounds like the rubbery anatomy that I found in my snack, so I'm going with "I found giblets in my burger".

hee hee hee. At about 1:27 am I came up with a joke:

Q: What do you call a physicist who refuses to meditate?

A: An "aum"-ic resistor.

The presentation went quite well, in spite of the fatigue. The best part was when I got my evaluations back, and everyone gave me 5/5 for "appropriate level of talk", which is the thing I consider most important when talking about science. Another nice thing that someone wrote was that I was a good candidate for best grad student talk of the year. Cool, eh!
