I'm sad to report that my faithful friend Arwen has died. That right, my iPod nano. Today when I tried to turn her on, she only displayed a blank white screen, and no amount of resetting nor restoring could revive her. An Apple Store jenius told me that her condition was fatal and that her warranty had expired, but fortunately I could get an exact clone for the low, low price of only $99, limited time offer while supplies last! So I did. The warranty on this one is only 90 days since it's a replacement unit offered for a special price. I've heard that the surface of the latest nanos is much more resistant to scratching, which would be great because Arwen's face was all scratched to heck. I know no one could ever truly replace my precious Arwen, but maybe this brand-new exact replica will come close.
Interesting that Arwen died at this exact moment... last night I bought my first songs ever via iTunes. I've avoided it forever because of the DRM, preferring to buy physical CDs if anything, but iTunes is just too cheap and convenient. And I figure I can burn CDs if I really need to listen to anything outside iTunes or the iPod, which I basically never do. I bought three songs last night: 100 Years by Five for Fighting; and Asia no Junshin and Planet Tokyo by Puffy (known as Puffy AmiYumi here in the States). I really want some Kitaro too, but I'm taking my time to make sure I get all the songs I want while avoiding repeat tracks if I can.
I so love Puffy. Their music reminds me of living in Japan. When I was there in 1997, my friend Owen asked our Japanese friend Masako how you can tell which girl is Ami and which is Yumi since they look a lot alike. She said, "
Yumi is on the left, Ami is on the right. Everyone knows it." Really!
