Tim Russert, R.I.P.

Sad to say, I am a political junkie (her cousin, Bethany, is as well). Yes, it is a habit, as my wife can attest, but I relish it and inadvertently torture her on Sunday mornings, with the line being drawn at "Urban Update".

However, this Sunday will be strange, as Tim Russert, the longtime NBC host of "Meet the Press", has died of a heart attack at his workplace.

I usually was half-asleep, or listening with one ear, but sometimes the shows were electrifying (at least to us political junkies). The best show, in my mind, was when he was interviewing Secretary of State, General Colin Powell (who should have run for President, imho) when Mr. Russert's questioning became too tough (critical of the Bush administration) for those around Secretary Powell.

I woke straight-up from a half-sleep to Russert's: "Mr. Secretary, we can't see you." Referring to the cameras being pulled by someone else behind-the-scenes. You could hear Powell sternly admonishing those around him to finish the interview properly, and seconds later he was back on, with an apology. At least, thru Russert, I knew they never got completely to Powell.

His insightful commentary and thoughtful lines of questioning will be missed.
