There's a program called
Dropbox that Everyone here should get. It's great.
Basically, it starts a folder on your computer that puts the contests of it online. It works invisibly and absurdly quickly. Every file you put into the folder gets uploaded instantly without you having to do a thing. It will update the files online whenever you re-save a document you are working on (excellent protection against your computer crashing while you're writing a paper), deletes it online whenever you delete it from your computer, etc.
You can access anything on this folder through the website when you are away from your computer. Anything you put into a Public or Photos folder in your Dropbox can be seen by anyone (if you give them the web address) and the pictures in your Photos folder are put into an album and can be scrolled through. Basically, this program is Excellent for backing up stuff online or sharing things with other people.
However, the program really gets cool if you have more than one computer. You can link your dropbox to many computers at once, so that anything added into the Dropbox folder on one computer is added to the same folder on all of those computers. If you work with multiple computers, it's an Excellent way to synchronize work files, music, or whatever between the computers.
Finally, if two or more people have Dropbox, they can share files between them. For example, I have a file called OrvisCarter that I share with Carter. Anything put into there either Carter or I can access, allowing us to share or send files at will. It's great.
Anna, this might be a great way to send us videos or cool stuff you find in London. Fran and Barbara, same with you from cool stuff that you get into. Anyone else on here, it would be fun to have one betwen all of us just to see what people put into it.
To all the family reading this, this is probably how I'll send you stuff for now on (don't worry-you don't actually have to get it if you don't want to-I'll still be able to share things with you through this, but not the other way around).
Back to writing my paper and stop wasting time, I suppose.
