7 Days and Counting...

That's right, 7 days until the big DC L5R tournamnet. Well, "big" - it'll be about 50 players, though, or so they project. However, they really don't know, because L5R players are historically awful at pre-registering for events. So it could easily be double that, or not. It will be interesting.

I have no excuses this time. I'm going in with a proven deck that can win in the hands of a good player. This means that, unless my dynasty draws have been as bad as I've been getting recently, I should be able to win.

Now, of course, I haven't been doing as well as I would have liked to in playtest recently. Part of it is that I've been playing against the two decktypes that can beat chi-death/control - Crab Smash and Military Dragon. I can beat the latter if I can establish control early. I can deal with the first, but it's hard, and it needs to be running not as much redirection as Bryant's in running.

So, in effect, I'll likely be going into the big tournament without having tested against much variety. I beat Kenny's crane deck (that Phil was playing), which makes me feel good. Chi-death owns crane honor rocket (I didn't even need the fist). Of course, it was the one holding version, but I still was able to beat it nonetheless.

I have no idea how it will do against lion military. It should do ok against unicorn (since cavalry, effectively, doesn't matter since I hardly ever defend provinces). Phoenix will be tough too. I'm really considering taking out Hakai, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to do it.

Mantis should be alright - lots of low-chi personalities = good.

So, in effect, I could do pretty well at this tournament. Recently, though, the deck's been giving me really horrendous dynasty draws. Like, really bad ones that pretty much cost me the game no matter what I do. I can play the deck ok - it just depends if the deck decides to give me a shot.

Anyway, no more IIDX AAAs tonight - actually, that's not true. On Thursday, after my last post, I got another one:

Melt In My Arms L7

Anyway, I'm exhausted from playing Poker on Friday (and considering I won one game, and got second in the other two, I'm pretty happy, considering I hardly ever play. Maybe some of my poker luck will rub off on me soon...)

Take care all - I'm off to bed.
