A little behind on the meme posts due to moving. But here's an interesting one.
Yesterday was the first time I saw the little doves/seagulls (I've heard them called both) from the inside of a sand dollar. I'd always been told about them on my many childhood beach vacations-- legend says, if you break open a sand dollar, they fall out. But as curious as I was about these little birds made of sea creature bone, I could not bring myself to break a sand dollar open.
Yesterday, I was back at the now-old apartment, cleaning out the random loose stuff that got left behind when the movers came and went. Always a tedious and slightly depressing task. In the bedroom closet, I found the crushed remains of what was once a sand dollar. I was a little sad at first to see that this sand dollar had met its demise in my closet due to neglect, but then I thought of the birds, and to my surprise, when I picked through the sand dollar pieces, I found all five little tiny bone shaped birds. I attempted to save them in the box of "stuff worth keeping," but I have a feeling they will get lost in the shuffle. Still, it was nice to have a pleasant surprise, an almost-spiritual moment in the middle of that unpleasant chore.
