This afternoon, I had gotten out of class early and been to the computer lab, and was walking down Cumberland Avenue to Sunspot, where my husband had agreed to meet me. I had my earbuds in, because I have learned that earbuds are the only surefire way to be sure that the Cumberland Ave panhandlers leave you alone.
I walked by a doorway of what either used to be a sushi place or is soon to be a sushi place-- either way, it's under construction. A large white man with brown hair and a white t-shirt walked out of said doorway dialing a cell phone. He looked like any other man who might be involved in construction, except for one thing: there was a monkey on his shoulder.
From what little I know about monkeys, I believe it was a capuchin. It looked like Marcel. It was sitting contentedly on the man's shoulder, wearing a diaper, and cuddling a stuffed white bunny. I stopped on the sidewalk for a moment to admire the monkey, and hopefully ask the man about his monkey. I said, "Hello, Monkey," and the monkey looked earnestly at me and cocked its head a little, but the man deliberately did not look at me, and appeared to want to go about his phone call in peace, so I walked away. But that definitely made my Wednesday more interesting.
