Breaking my friends-only rule for this, to spread the word as far as possible.
Two years ago, my mum and I took part in Cancer Research UK's
Race For Life. At that time her mother, my Nana, was recovering from cancer (she has since been given the all-clear, though she hadn't when we did the Race). I remember seeing all these people taking part with their back signs saying "In memory of ...", and realising how lucky we were to be able to use the "In celebration of ..." signs. It really hits it home to you, seeing those signs, just how valuable the work of Cancer Research is.
Then, this year, my other Grandma had her own brush with cancer. Thankfully, she is now recovering, too, but she had us all worried for a while. Unfortunately, cancer affects so many people that I'm sure most of you know the feeling of discovering that a close friend or relative has it. Which is why I'm hoping that at least some of you will be prepared to help me.
This year, my mother and I are taking part in Race For Life once again. We just registered for the Race in Edinburgh on June 13th, so we're now on a sponsorship hunt. And, if you hadn't guessed already, that's where you guys come in. If any of you, whether cancer has touched your lives or not, can spare a few pounds and want to help out a very good cause, please consider sponsoring me this year. Last time, if I remember rightly, my mother and I raised over £100 each. It would be fantastic if we could better that this year.
It's mainly the Brits among you that I'm pleading to at the moment, but if anyone from anywhere else *does* want to sponsor me, let me know, and I'll investigate the possibility of international sponsorship.
