Holy smokes, it's been a weekend.
This was the weekend of the long awaited first annual Bunga Bunga Party, which ends up being mostly a reason to eat, drink and be merry. The party was also the final destination of my friend Niki's birthday, and a pit-stop for Christine's semi-birthday party.
But first: I had to take Michelle's kids down to Wainfleet to stay w/ her folks for the weekend. We spent the night down in Niagara region since I didn't feel like driving all the way back, and Michelle's sister had just arrived home from Ecuador so I figured it would be nice for them to have some time together. I finished reading The Psychopath Test and will be quietly trying to determine who of the people I know are psychotic.. not dangerous psycho, but maybe executive psycho where you lack certain normal person qualities, but those deficiencies allow you to excel in the world of business. Or you're just a crazy person. Anyhow, we spent the night and stayed later than I would have liked in the morning, but we were fed, and we zoomed back to Toronto. Some expediency was required since Niki's bf had asked me earlier in the week if he could drop a cake off at my house (ice cream cake) the day of the party so they could have cake. Of course! But he had said noon and it was shortly after that when we got back to my place.

Staring out at lake Erie from the 'cottage' - there's a big boat out there!
I had to run around and get last-minute groceries, and David texted me and I told him to knock, since Mich was making ribs and was home. We spent the next 6 hours actively cooking, and I don't think I really stopped running around until after 10. I felt a little loopy, since I didn't give myself any real time to enjoy the party, but I was happy that other people were having a good time and everything went more or less smoothly, save for some excitement with the bbq... but all in all, it was good. We had 3 kinds of wings, two kinds of ribs, roasted potatoes, pulled pork, coleslaw, bean salad, cupcakes, ice-cream cake, corn (which sadly failed since the bbq didn't behave), sangria, whatever other people brought to drink.. and probably some more food. I was happy that people were there and had a good time, I was also happy when everyone went home.
The next day (well, today) was lovely - Michelle and I ate leftovers (and food that didn't make it out to the party - if people were inside we were going to have dip, hummus, baba ganoush and pita and brie, but no one was indoors so that got missed. We left for Niagara around 1, since I am making some business down there.. or trying to. Planning on it, let's say. I'm hoping to sell wine journals and a book about Niagara wineries and the best value wines at the LCBO book to wineries as an alternative channel for books. I think it's a great idea, damnit. And it'll give me an opportunity to dick around wine region for a few days. So we went to a couple of places, and I'm going to try to go down there again on Thursday and poke around.
While I was down there, Christine called me and told me that the littlest babe, J, had gotten out. She found a black cat poking around my place in the afternoon and was trying to coax him out so she could grab him. I was panicking, because the little babe had been trying to escape more recently since the weather was nice. I will let him out only if I'm with him and he's not going to run anywhere. He's very fast, and I thought that maybe he had crept out while I was leaving with Mich... I mean, I was pretty sure he had been in the bedroom, but he is very fast.
I called back and Christine had caught him and put him in my apt. I was relieved, and didn't worry about it too much. I saw a black cat on Woodbine which scared me - since I thought if I hadn't let him sneak out somehow, maybe there was a tear in a screen that he had made his escape through. Anyhow, I got home and was delighted to see my kitty greet me at the door. I gave J a stern talking to, and settled down for a late dinner and finish watching a Star Wars movie. I filled up p J's bowl, even though I had filled it before I left home. I thought being outside maybe freaked him out and he needed more food.
I was past the bean salad and had moved onto some brie and crackers. I saw J on the bed dozing, and then I saw J climb out from under the bed, stretch, and come towards me.
IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING HAVING TWO NEAR-IDENTICAL CATS IN YOUR HOUSE WHEN YOU EXPECT ONLY ONE.

Other cat.. and J seemed to get along ok. Other cat would make low grumbly distressed noises. He did look an awful lot like J to be fair... easy enough to get wrong. I let him go, because there was probably someone wondering where he was. It took a while to convince myself I had let the right one out again. He did not have J's little ear tufts.
Short of it - it was long. Also, I saw a snapping turtle by the side of the road near Wainfleet. I circled back to double check. He was pretty big, and didn't appreciate me trying to nudge him away from the road. He hissed and opened his mouth wide. I wasn't worried until I remembered that I no longer had steel-toe boots on and backed off. Mich thought this was all very funny from the car.
