Summary: Jongin is quite possibly the worst and best thing to happen to Junmyeon, other than his vitamins, of course.
Junmyeon pushes open the door to his apartment, kicking off his shoes and toeing his worn socks as he tried to remove them without dropping the box he had in his hands.
“Jongin? Are you home?” Putting down the pink box on the coffee table, Junmyeon calls out for his little boyfriend, expecting the boy to come out of the room, tail swishing the moment he hears Junmyeon call for him.
But even after Junmyeon pulls his socks off, said socks which have been clawed countless times by Jongin, there is no sign of his boyfriend and the man frowns. Jongin hated going out of their apartment, preferring to stay indoors and preferably, all snuggled up in bed with a warm cup of milk and dramas on television.
Junmyeon pushes open the door to their bedroom quietly, not wanting to disturb the catboy if he was really asleep. Some hybrids just had the features of a feline and not their traits but Jongin had all the traits of a gentle but lazy housecat and the bratty, but oh so adorable, traits of a teenager.
Right in the centre of the double bed and surrounded by feather pillows, Jongin was curled up with his tail wrapped around his hips, ears flat against his head. He snuffles into the pillows when the door closes behind Junmyeon, sensitive ears standing upright at the sudden sound.
Blearily, Jongin’s eyes open into small slits as he tried to see where the click was came from, “Junmyeon..! You’re home!” The darkness of the room couldn’t stop Jongin from seeing who was at the door, perks of being half-cat, and he scrambles to sit up, rubbing his eyes sleepily.
His soft lips curl into a pout when Junmyeon flips the switch by the door, bathing their bedroom in warm yellow light, his eyes were horrible when he had to adapt quickly. Despite the dim light, Jongin grabs a pillow to bury his face into, tail thumping on the bed in protest.
Junmyeon sighs and with another click, the light fades away. He was such a sucker for Jongin.
The moonlight streaming in was the only source of light and Junmyeon climbs up the bed with a huff, letting Jongin’s thighs pillow his head as he chuckles at the catboy’s attempt to push him off with a purposeful “Hmph!”.
“Jongin ah, don’t be upset,” Junmyeon reaches up to pull the pillow from the catboy’s grasp, throwing it onto the pale wood floor, “I promise, this is the last time I come home so late, I won’t let it happen again.”
The catboy’s petulant pout deepens and Jongin refuses to look at Junmyeon, choosing to look at the opposite wall where his claw marks from his last tantrum were still present, “That’s what you said the last time! And the time before that! You’re a big fat liar, Jun.”
He was glad Junmyeon was back, Jongin hated it when he was alone at home and especially at night but his boyfriend had been working late the past few weeks. Everytime he called to tell Jongin that he wasn’t coming home for dinner, the catboy’s mood would be horrible at least until Junmyeon bribed him with something, anything.
But not this time.
Jongin was going to stand firm this time and stay angry and not be swayed by silly presents. All he wanted was to spend time with Junmyeon, even if they weren’t doing anything and he wasn’t about to let his boyfriend’s stupid work spoil their plans.
“I’m not speaking with you anymore, not unless you swear on your vitamins that you’re not going to work overtime for the rest of the … year.” Jongin says with an almost business-like tone and he pulls open the drawer to hand Junmyeon a piece of paper.
Junmyeon sits up with a similar expression to Jongin’s on his face and he coughs, clearing his throat before reading out what was typed neatly on the piece of paper.
“I, Kim Junmyeon, swear on my many, many bottles of all-important and essential vitamins, that I will not work past 5PM for the rest of 2014 and spend all the free time I have with my dearly beloved boyfriend, Kim Jongin or else, I would not be able to touch or get a response from him for the next 2 years…?”
There is a dotted line at the bottom of the sheet and Jongin hands his boyfriend a pen, pointing at the space above the line. “Sign there, go on.”
Junmyeon bit his lip to prevent himself from chuckling out loud but the serious expression on the catboy’s face makes him burst out in laughter, highly amused by his boyfriend’s antics. Jongin’s face, however, falls when he realises that Junmyeon wasn’t taking him seriously and his bottom lip juts out in displeasure.
An upset whine escapes the hybrid, making Junmyeon scrunch up his nose, the high pitch of the sound hurting his ears. “Baby, you promised not to make that sound, we had an agreement, right?” He promised to buy Jongin a slice of strawberry shortcake every Sunday if the cat got rid of that terrible habit and Jongin hadn’t made that sound in a long time, until now, that is.
Jongin stops abruptly and he glares at Junmyeon, “If you don’t keep your promises, why should I keep mine? I’m serious about the contract, if you come home late, one more time, I’m going to live with Tao and Sehun. You don’t see Tao coming home late every single day for two weeks, right?”
A resigned sigh escapes Junmyeon and he uncaps the fountain pen, scrawling his signature on the dotted line and handing the sheet of paper back to Jongin, pulling the reluctant catboy into his arms.
“I’m sorry, baby. I really am, but Kyungsoo is my best friend and I have to make sure our companies have a smooth first project or I wouldn’t be able to face him. You understand, right?” Nuzzling his face into Jongin’s neck, Junmyeon murmurs softly, tightening his arms around the cat when Jongin wraps his legs around the elder’s hips, putting them chest to chest.
Jongin looks down into his boyfriend’s eyes with the slightest little furrow between his brows, ears floppy against his hair as he lets the contract flit onto the floor. “I know, I know, but w-we haven’t been spending time together and I don’t get to hug you to sleep anymore…” He pouts, making Junmyeon press a small kiss to his little button nose before landing another one onto the catboy’s soft lips.
Sometimes, Junmyeon forgets that Jongin is still a teenager and half-cat to boot, his needs are not of the material kind but the emotional kind and Junmyeon’s absence must have made him feel horribly abandoned.
Reaching up to scratch comfortingly behind Jongin’s ears, Junmyeon leans back against the headboad, letting Jongin sniffle into his chest as his nails dig into Junmyeon’s chest, refusing to let the elder go.
“Stay here till morning, okay? I- don’t wanna wake up without you anymore…” His voice fades into an illegible mumble as the catboy falls into deep sleep, his nose filling with the familiar scent of his Junmyeon.
Jongin had the best sixteen hours of sleep in weeks. Junmyeon didn’t go to work that Friday morning.
And the strawberry shortcake on the coffee table became the main dish for their lazy breakfast in bed.
Junmyeon wouldn’t exchange his cream-covered (cat)boyfriend for anything else, and maybe he’d buy Jongin the backpack he wanted, if the catboy took down the framed contract from its position of honour above their shoe cabinet.
