.
Funny, the things we realize all of a sudden. For instance, it occurred to me a few days ago that at school, I am never in the dark (literally speaking). Every inch of every building, ever stretch of road, every picnic table, is well lit. I had almost forgotten what it was like to walk down a dark hallway until I turned off the light in my room and started down the stairs that I was hit with a tremendous sense of well being and relief that I could not see. There is no way I can properly explain it, other than, that to lose my reliance on sight was... comforting.
Friday I went deer hunting with Chris. Though my but was wet and my legs cold, it was so good to be quite. I cannot remember the last time I could simply sit and watch the sun rise. Later he, Tad and I went to the mall to see the Black Friday madness, and blow some money on the side. I ended up caving in and getting The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke in hardcover because it is simply such a lovely, lovely book. Oh, and remember how I said that, since the first time I saw the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean II the best thing that could come out of it was a Cthulhu Pirate action figure? Well, it was true. Oh so true.
I saw the stars last night better than I have in so many months. There are simply so many, they are so bright, so sure and true. I think I honestly groaned in the utter pleasure of seeing them. If ever I was to lose my sight, and lose those stars, I cannot see what my purpose could be.
And so, I prepare, and return.
