Last Thursday, my mom and I went to one of the family friends, who were having a breakfast party which they won as part of an auction for a gazebo from a radio station. They produced the morning show right there in their back yard. While there, mum and I managed to win a pair of tickets for Ringo Star and his All-Star Band at Mohegan Sun.
Holy Crap! I just saw a fucking Beatle, in concert! My mom never even saw one in real life! Now, I admit, we all three thought that it would mostly be Ringo doing some old classics and new stuff, but when they said All-Star Band, they meant it! The only name I really recognized was Edmund Winter (yes, one of the bloody Winter Brothers!!!), but I knew a lot of the songs. It was incredible, these were things you heard on the radio all the time, great classic fantastic songs, and I was seeing them live! With Ringo! Of the Beatles! Some of his new songs were so-so, but he did a number of Beatles numbers, and let me tell you, when that band was playing all together, they were damn well Playing! There was a bit of a sing along with ‘Yellow Submarine’, but best of all was ‘I Get by with a Little Help From My Friends’. In the call-and-response bit, He has the audience sing the first line, and he’d do the second. My mom commented, “It’s like singing with Ringo. That’s so cool!” All told, it was phenomenal to see all these great musicians playing and having fun together (though I must say they made it pretty clear who was signing the checks). No matter what one thinks, The Beatles are a non-replenishable resorce, like petroleum. There's only two left, and just to be in the same room with one, while in a way just a kow-tow at the shrine of celebrity, is still powerful. These are the names that made modern music, by gods!
It’s too late for me to be really eloquent, I best stop here before I write in some more grammatical mistakes I’m not going to proofread for. Ask me later if you want more of a scoop…
Peace and love, my brethren.
