I did it!  I finally did it!  I got my cherry popped!

Yes, that’s right!!!

I was in my very first mosh pit!

Why, what did you think I was talking about?

Oh come on, be serious.  This is me we’re talking about.  Do you think I would ever have reason to tell you about something like that?

Alright, so now time for an in-depth explanation.  MTV U is having a free campus tour, and one of their stops was our very own Binghamton University.  We had HelloGoodbye and Straylight Run with Motion City Soundtrack headlining.  Now, I’ll admit, I haven’t actually listened to any of their music, but it was free, and all of my hall friends were going, so I decided, what the hell.  Steve (my buddy down the hall, and Alec’s roommate next year)’s girlfriend and older sister came up, which was a refreshing inclusion to the crew (plus, it‘s nice to be called the nicest guy someone‘s ever met).

Everyone spent a good portion of the day drinking, it being our Spring Fling and all, but they were cool about it, I didn’t feel uncomfortable like I sometimes do, watching them get pissed.  We worked our way up their as HelloGoodbye was just starting up, and Carley (Steve’s sis) pulled me right into the middle of it.  I was a little unsure what to do as the crowd started getting active, as, to be honest, this was my first real concert.  A pit formed right behind me, I didn’t realize until some kid was thrown into my back.  Now, this one didn’t count, because I was a little freaked out and confused.  In addition, there seemed to be a lot of little kids around, 14 year old girls, maybe, that sort of thing.  I didn’t want to fly in there and kill anyone.

Ok, let me abbreviate this all a bit, because I know how reluctant I am to read long posts.  After a quick break, where Steve and Pam almost broke up again and he blamed me, Straylight Run performed.  I was a little lukewarm about the last band, but I got up in the moment, so everything was cool.  This time, it was the opposite.  I was really loving the music, but the crowd was totally out of it, the bunch of dicks.  On kid even through his shoe on state.  His bloody shoe!  A lot of them must have just been there for the free show (I’ll admit, so was I, but I was willing to try and actually enjoy it.)  Around this time, I started noticing just how few of the audience actually went to this school.  I don’t claim to know the entire campus, but I knew that I had never seen a lot of these people, especially the ones that were clearly high-school kids.

Right, enough of that.  Hello Goodbye opened up just as night was well and truly falling, and the entire crowd reacted.  This is what they had been waiting for.  We pushed our way into the middle of things, and went all out.  I was a little surprised of myself, I was in that rush the entire hour and some odd, bouncing and yelling, pushing and moshing.  I even started a couple pits!  After awhile, I stopped even listening to the music and just became part of the crowd.  I managed to get a few people dropped on me outright, and hit the dirt at least twice, but that’s the best part!  When you go down, everyone is there to pick you back up, it’s an incredible social experience.  It doesn’t mater who you are, who’s ass your inadvertently touching, who’s shoulder your arm is around, who your slamming into, everyone’s there to have fun, but not to do it at others expense.  If someone wants out, they part for them.  If someone wants to crowd surf (a lot did), there’s five people to hoist you up.  Gods, why didn’t I know about this sooner.

Unfortunately, the set ended with something of a downer.  There was this big guy who I had been next to for some time.  I think we were unconsciously sticking side by side, because we made a couple of pits together.  Well, this pit got huge and rough, so much so that I started sticking to the sides.  This fellow went down, and it looked like this kid tripped over his head.  I leaned down to help him up, and found his arm stiff.  It looked like what happens to a rabbit when you break it’s neck.  As soon as we all realized what was going on, we spread out and tried to signal the band and security crews what was up.  They became aware after a moment, and the band was a good help.  I was a little freaked out, and as such the last song wasn’t nearly as fun.

Feth, this has gone on too long.  I’m sorry, any of you who feel cheated by sitting through such an entry without some great revelation or comedic gold.  Last night was just a big event for me.  Now, as I sit sore and tired, and in a foul mood of sorts, I wanted to get it all out and channel my energy.

It’s been good telling you this story, my friends.  Have a wonderful day, all of you.  I’ll be with you soon.
