I cribbed this from
bratfarrar. I don’t normally do these but for some reason this one appealed to me.
5 Things in my Purse
- My Kindle. Because you never know when you’ll have 10 minutes to read.
- My driver’s license and my debit card.
- My ‘Resist’ button. Okay, technically it’s on my bag, but it’s particularly important to me right now.
- A stash of mostly expired coupons. Because I always remember them after I’ve checked out.
- My shopping bag. In Chicago you have to pay for a plastic or paper bag if you don’t bring your own.
A few weeks ago I was at Trader Joe's and pulled out my bag for my groceries. The cashier gasped, "You met them! My wife and I love that show!" and then he pulled out his phone and asked if he could take a picture of my bag to show his wife! I couldn’t stop laughing to myself for the rest of the night!
5 Things in my Bedroom
1. The afghan my youngest daughter made me.
2. The purple box where my ‘grandchildren’ necklace goes at night. It has the names of my 3 granddaughters and I’ve worn it every day since my daughters gave it to me 3 years ago.
3. My Wall of Pretty. This is a collection of artwork my daughters and a couple friends made for me, some birthday cards I framed because they were too pretty to put in a box, the porcelain fairy my oldest daughter gave me the Christmas of her first year away at college, the butterfly my 5-year-old granddaughter picked out as my Christmas present last year, and a drawing I bought because it captured me. I look at this wall every day and it makes me happy to see such prettiness and because of the love in them.
4. and 5. My foam rubber sword and my ‘Benevolent Dictator’ plaque. 32 years ago (yikes) I went weekly to a theatrical show called DungeonMaster that was essentially semi-scripted LARPING, though it wasn’t called that at the time. The audience would come as characters and 6 of them would be picked to go on an adventure with the cast, and the story changed every week. One of the crew crafted and sold foam rubber swords (because they didn’t want the untrained whaling away with real stage weaponry) and for Christmas my husband bought me my very own sword.
The ‘Benevolent Dictator’ plaque was given to me at the end of a 15-year run of a kids’ variety show I directed. It started in my backyard one year when my 8-year-old wanted to ‘put on a show’ like in a book she’d read, so she and 5 of her friends danced and lip-synched and told jokes in a little show that I coordinated for for their parents and grandparents. When it was over, all the siblings of the kids who'd been in the show asked if they could be in it next year. So I organized it one more time the next summer. And then all the friends of the kids who’d been in it wanted to know if they could join next year…and we ended up renting a church basement and doing it for 15 years, and at the end over a hundred kids had participated, some for just 1 time and some for almost the whole run. It is one of the things I am proudest of having done in my life.
5 Things I’ve Always Wanted to Do
This one is actually hard. I can’t really think of a many things that I specifically want to do…most of my adventures just kind of happen. So I’m going to kind of cheat…
Gather all my closest Supernatural friends together and
- Buy them all plane tickets
- Buy them all Gold tickets to the Vancouver Creation Con
- Buy Jensen and Jared Meet and Greet ticket for all of us
- And get us all photo ops, too
And by golly, if I ever win the lottery that’s what I’m doing! (I suppose it would help if I actually bought lottery tickets…)
5. The only other thing I can think that I'd really want to get to do is to spend a day on set while they’re filming and have lunch with the boys…
5 Things that Make Me Happy
- Watching my daughters, their spouses, and my granddaughters be awesome, empathetic, intelligent, creative people!
- Having long, rambly, random phone conversations with my daughters that feel like I’m talking to my best friends.
- Having coffee with my dear friend of 25+ years, Chris, with whom I can have the best heart-to-heart conversations about everything.
- Sharing emails and stories with the incredible friends I’ve made in the Supernatural fandom.
- Watching Jared, Jensen, and the entire Supernatural cast and crew show how real friendship-the joy of sharing your friends’ successes-works.
5 Things I’m Currently Into
Um…Supernatural x 5…I only can handle one obsession at a time, it’s just the way I’m wired. This is the longest one I’ve ever had, though. And it's made me friends all over the world, and inspired me to write some stories!
5 Things on my To-Do List
Not necessarily in order:
- Watch all 8 Harry Potter movies in a concentrated time span.
- Sew the dress for my oldest granddaughter for which I’ve had the fabric and pattern for 2 years…along with sewing the 2 jackets and dress for myself that I’ve had the fabric for an embarrassingly long time…and make stuff with the rest of the fabric sitting around my sewing room...
- Organize the files on my Kindle…and my laptop…and make flash drives with all the Summer Theater videos for my kids to keep.
- Download music onto the MP3 player I bought for my car and make nifty playlists.
- Put together my Supernatural convention scrapbook.
I hope you enjoy reading about me as much as I enjoyed sharing myself. I'd love to learn more about you all!
