Done obsessing over Amelia...

8.11 LARP and the Real Girl

What can I say about this episode? It was just plain fun!!! No major angsting, a self-contained story that was just relaxing to sit and enjoy! And a little bit of reconnection between the boys, with Dean even acknowledging twice that Sam gave up something special to stay working with Dean.

8.12 Time After Time

A game-changer in the myth-arc--first it knocks our understanding of John Winchester sideways, then gives us a major new threat, and then sets the stage for the batcave and all the changes that having it will bring! That's pretty crazy for one episode...comparable to when we first learned that Mary Winchester had been raised a hunter!

All things considered they did pretty well with knocking the world over while keeping it from too much of a retcon. We have the background info that John was "a mechanic from a family of mechanics," and it would have been easy enough for a reference to his step-father to have been put in...I know, that's why we write fanfic, to plug the gaps... :/

The rigamorole with the grave of Albert Magnus, then the wrong skeleton in the coffin leading to the man who survived...seemed unnecessarily complicated to me.

For someone who was very bookish and had to puke after getting away from the demon, Henry developed balls pretty quickly between knowing about devil's trap bullets to his acting performance when being delivered to Abaddon.

Does anyone else think that "As Time Goes By" is a weird song choice for a little boy's music box?

Dean even gets to give one of his emotional "I will do whatever it takes to save Sammy" speeches--been a while :)

And random bit of crazy trivia off Superwiki--in 4.03 "Back to the Beginning" when we first meet young Mary, there is an Aquarian star--the Men of Letters symbol--on her charm bracelet!!!

8.13 Everybody Hates Hitler

Another winner, and a lot of the credit goes to Adam Rose for his portrayal of Aaron as he steps into his responsibilities, and how the relationship between Aaron and the golem is played.

My favorite part is the fight at the end with Sam, Dean, and Aaron at the mercy of the necromancers, trying to communicate a plan wordlessly--which works!

Although I do wonder how come Dean wasn't broken after the golem threw him into the car and Dean was rolling in pain on the pavement...

The Men of Letters bunker gets its own starring role in this episode, from when the boys enter and turn on the lights--LOVED Sam's awed 'son of a bitch' upon seeing the library! to the final scene with Legacy Sam and proud-of-his-brother Dean.

Too bad they can never keep those triumphant moments very long...

rewatch, spn, season 8
