OMFG. My essay that’s due next Monday? Is more complicated than I imagined.
STEP 1:
To begin, you need to choose a topic that interests you. Your choices are:
1. Biometric surveillance
2. The use of CCTV cameras
3. Online identity-related crime
STEP 2:
After choosing a topic from the list above, you must find a ‘real life’ incident related to your ( Read more... )

real life is meh, uni

OMG! That is amazing! Good fortune going round, woohoo! *twirls you around* Haha, I'll take credit for it if you insist. :P That's very cool. :D

It's due next Monday, but I won't be writing it up til Thursday- or well, since I'm submitting the other essay onThursday, prob means I'll still be writing then, lol, so Friday.

And I had a look at the break-down for the assignment, and it says: Choice of 'real life' incident from the newspapers, radio, television or internet (Australian or International from 2010 or 2011): 10%

a) yay, so whatever that thing you're talking about is, it's applicable!
b) WHOA, 10% on choice alone? For writing one paragraph summarizing an incident?! *flails*

I'm trying to be negative now, because otherwise I'mma get too excited at the prospect of actually passing...

Er, btw, what is the Playstation thing? Do you got a link or some key words for me to google? *hopeful eyes* I'm liking the sound of something widely documented, heh.

*twirls and laughs* I am SO relieved I can't even comprehend my good fortune! Take all the credit you want chica, because I'm givin git to you! *squishes tightly*

Check out this article. I think from there you should be able to goole a few keywords. Also check out Sony's site for any press releases as well. I know thye had some fairly large articles in the the Canadian newspapers I read so I would assume something similar to be in The Australian or The Daily Telegraph. Hope that helps you somewhat :) Although I'm not sure if anyone's identity WAS stolen, just that they were hacked...

Honestly, the universe is being too good to us! What are the chances? ^_^ Maybe it's an incentive, try to motivate us to procrastine less in future...? Fate teaching moral lessons, lol.

I appreciate all the tips! I haven't properly looked at...eek, well, anything to do with this unit past the first couple weeks, but since the case is only a small component, I don't think it has to be anything too involved, just a taste of what the topic is about. So even if nobody used theier identities, I think the fact that security was compromised and their personal info stolen is enough.

But if you hear anything at work up til Friday, I'll be happy to hear it! I was bouncy over 10% until I realized- hang on, they're not going to just GIVE it to us, it means they'll be more strict and judge-y.

Although I'm confused- it says:
Do not spend the majority of your essay explaining or introducing your case study. ***WRITE NO MORE THAN ONE PARAGRAPH to outline the case and its relevance to your research report***

...
...

What is a case study? By case study, I am referring to an in-depth, critical analysis and evaluation of a particular case (in this instance, the incident documented in the media report you have chosen). By ‘evaluate’, I mean weighing up the strengths and advantages and weaknesses and disadvantages in each of the arguments advanced in your report.

If we're supposed to evaluate the incident/media report in every paragraph, wouldn't that include explaining the details and how it's relevant to each point? Argh.

Er, not that I expect you to figure out my essay for me! I'm just venting a bit, lol. *squish* Thanks for putting up with me!

I think I'mma use your idea. ^_^ I was concerned about it because it talked about info being stolen, but there weren't any cases of it being used to take money, and I wasn't sure if that was appropriate. But a few other students have asked if there needs to be a specific incident or crime or whatever, or if they can use an article that discusses the issue, ('must it be related to crime or can be simple describe let say, setting up a new biometric security system in the airport?') and the teacher said it was okay, so yay! You've really helped me out here, bb. *hugs*

Mind you, I'm still blanking on how to apply Sociology to this (not like I can apply Marx or Durkheim, at least, I'm not seeing it) but oh well! Three days to get this done... *clutches head*

I'm glad I could help out! I always try to repay good karma in some way so it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass. *hugs*
