Yes, how awesome is it? I love that! It's so true, when people call you a nerd, it's like a criticism of how passionate you are about what you're interested in, which is so lame of them. *sniffs* (you'll note sports fans don't get called derogatory names for being so into their area of interest)
And thing is, I DO love Tamora Pierce, she's one of the first authors, if not THE first, to get me hooked on fantasy- but I'm not going to fawn over her book just out of loyalty to her. WotE was really crappy. I read these books for the strong and adorable relationship between the kids, and she sacrificed that for teenage hormones and crappy love interest plotlines. Ugh. I don't understand why so many authors think growing up means ditching your true friends over a crush! That never happened with the group of kids I was friends with at high school!
And my fave quartet became more juvenile here than they were as kids! Just annoying and whiny and getting on each other's nerves, and mine! I applaud you for giving up and not finishing it, I wish I had done that, because it really ruined the series for me and it's only now, ages later, that I can decide to re-read the earlier books, now that the taint of WotE has worn off. *shudders*
/dramatic whinge
But yes, Tris is just my role model. I have so much love for her, she just boosted my self-esteem when I was a kid and bought into the 'reading is uncool, glasses are uncool, oh, you're fat, you must suck' thing that society promotes.
I was ecstatic when I found an autographed copy of Tris's Book at a thrift shop. xD
OMG, that is so cool! How lucky are you! And at a thrift store, too! They didn't know what they were letting walk out the door, lol.
Oh, and the vid I've linked in this post is...well, I have a habit of writing really long entries, so before I post, I'll open up the 'post entry' in a new tab, delete half of it and post the other half. When that's done, LJ automatically saves the first one, so then when I come back a week or so later, I'll work off that entry and the things I didn't have room for before. So this vid is from the old style of embedding. But damn youtube, I can't believe they changed their tag/embed system and now I can't use it anymore! *wibbles* I hope someone figures out a way to fix it...
It's so ridiculous. I always grin when people call me a nerd. To me, it's a huge compliment. xDDD Being passionate should never be a bad thing.
And ugh- I know what you mean, Daja grated on my nerves especially with regards to how she treated the others. I LIKE these characters, but Tamora clearly did SOMETHING wrong if she made them that irritating. D': Characters should MATURE as the go along, not turn into the whiny brats that they never were.
I guess I'm not going to be picking WotE again then.
They didn't know what they were letting walk out the door, lol. It was all I could do to keep from dancing around with a smile on my face. xD
I hope they fix the problem too then! D': That really sucks that there doesn't seem to be a fix. I'll keep an eye out for any fixes though.
The thing is, I don't find the term 'nerd' to be an insult, but that's how people use it at times, which is why I get irritated, if that makes sense? Like, I don't mind wearing glasses, in fact, I like my glasses and I think they suit my features and I look better with them, lol, but when people pay me out over them, it annoys me because of the intention behind their words, rather than the thing they're talking about in and of itself.

Exactly, even when they didn't know each other and all had their own damage and insecurity, they never treated each other as poorly as in this book. I mean, how is it that AFTER they've achieved such successes and made names for themselves and got great careers and mentors and everything, that they're actually more vile to each other than before, when they were mistreated and treated like dirt and had nothing?
Oh, I'm so happy, my f-lister pointed out an easy fix! There's an option to go back to the old format if you keep scrolling down, lol, I didn't know to look for it, but I'm uber-relieved! :D
