'why don't you be the artist and make me out of clay?'

RL: I've been sick this week, you guys. UGH. Felt like utter crap, and just the week when I start actual work! And of course, because I'm not suffering enough, my period also starts. Yah, I loved my body this week. Can I just flip my finger at myself? >:[

Speaking of the enviromental thing- *sighs*
Day One: about what I expected. I played the aloof antisocial loner role I learned in high school and perfected in uni.
Day Two: made the mistake of getting close to a couple people, thought I made a friend.
Day Three: almost-friend ditches me to hang out with the fun, popular girls in the group. AWESOME.

And this is why I do not even try to make friends anymore. As soon as you let your guard down, as soon as you make any effort and let yourself care? You get crushed. I'm not letting myself be vulnerable anymore, it just sucks to find time and again that I am not good enough to maintain their interest.

I had some bad luck with ficcage over the weekend. I hate hate HATE when the chick gets all confused by her emotions and doesn't know how to handle her feelings for the guy and decides the best course of action is to go out and hook up with some other random guy! WHYYY? Fumed over that for a while- look, I've stuck with this fic for a while and it just crushed me that after so long, I was let down in that manner- before I decided to go read another fic by another author whose work I generally enjoy. And WHAT DO YOU KNOW. The same exact thing happens! *headdeskwallfloor*

Look, I don't mean to cast aspersions upon anyone's lifestyle choices. I don't judge people- I know in real life, there are enough people who do go out and hook up, and okay. Not that I'm encouraging it, but it's their choice and I'm not gonna stand around and be condescending about it. But when it comes to fanfic, it really ruins the romance for me. It's a personal turn-off, the way I don't enjoy infidelity fics or miscarriages or anything else like that. It's just not something I would go, 'Oh, hey, this course of action makes the character so much more lifelike! She is flawed in such a realistic and enthralling way, I would like to read more about this now!'

And on another note- it's not that I expect female characters to be virgins, except when it seems OOC that they would not be.

COME ON. The number of fics I've read where the authors decide to  get her virginity out of the way in a perfunctory manner- basically, 'she experimented with some Muggle boys over the holidays'.

Um, firstly, she spends most of her holidays at the Burrow! Not like she had much time to meet Muggle boys!

And secondly, it took her seven years to finally get together with Ron- seriously, is this the kind of girl that would be going out there and doing it with relative strangers?!

I think that's the most ridiculous way of resolving it, tbh. I do not buy it at all. I would rather the writer did not address her virginity or lack thereof, if they were going to deal with it in such a hamfisted way.

The other two alternatives- okay, a popular one is  Viktor Krum. REALLY. So when she was what, 15, and he was...18? I do not buy it at all. I thought the whole reason he asked her out was because he liked that she didn't fawn all over him and he was relieved there was one non-starstruck girl in the whole school with whom he could be at ease. And while I don't mind the idea of him being her first kiss, considering it was pretty clear that she was always hung up on Ron, I think it's pretty OOC for her to rush into having sex with this guy. At that age!

I know, I know, kids these days are sexually active at like, 12, but for Hermione in particular? A girl who was never that confident of her attractiveness? Who didn't think she had much appeal to the opposite sex? Who chose to pride herself on her brains and academic record, and scornfully eschewed girly things and dissed Parvati-and-Lavender as flighty, silly creatures? I really don't think she'd be confident enough to be experimenting sexually that early.

And the other popular candidate is, of course, Ron. Even though they don't even kiss til DH. It's not that I don't think he'd be the obvious choice, but...there were all these obstacles standing in their way, they had so many issues to deal with- his thing with Lavender, her thing with Cormac, DD's death, them being on the run, having to risk their lives, trying to help Harry, wanting to protect their friendship and not ruin it in case they misjudged the other's feelings, not feeling safe anywhere and dealing with the paranoia/hostility exacerbated by the Horcrux...seriously, I do not see anything realistically happening before/during DH. Def not before the end of DH.

I still do not and never will ship R/Hr, but these fics? Reflect how I see their relationship realistically progressing, and it does not involve smutty hook-ups in closets, à la Grey's Anatomy.

After the Battle
Summer Holidays
An Interlude Before War

Slightly awkard and uncertain, wanting that happily-ever-after but not quite how to get there, what with the war and death and recovery and all that upheaval, wondering how to proceed when they're not on an adrenaline rush in the middle of a battle, trying to figure out what they're doing with the rest of their lives and how they'll fit together with their diverging paths. Yeah.

I don't ship it, but I want to understand it. Because I do find it annoying when fics for non-canon ships demonize Ron and turn him into a wife-beater (right! Who is it in canon that inflicts physical violence?) or a cheating douchebag (okay, if well-written, I could see that happening- he was a jerk to Lavender because he couldn't think of a way to break up with her, so I could extrapolate from that to see him becoming a cheater because he didn't want to face any fuss with Hermione, who went mental and attacked him when they weren't even in a relationship!) or some pathetic parody of himself. I think every relationship has certain flaws that could be capitalized upon to cause a break-up without having to trash the character altogether, jeez.

(The best reason for a break-up I've ever read? And utterly hilarious to boot? From Arachne- Ron cannot cope when Hermione's Animagus form turns out to be...a giant tarantula! LMAO)

What the hell is this?

Um...no. Look, I was pissed when Kathryn Morris all of a sudden turned up on Cold Case with these fancy hair-do's. They made a point of presenting Lilly with messy, hastily-pulled-up hair for a purpose- Kathryn was always mentioning in interviews how it made her 'realistic', that she didn't have time to be fussing with stylish do's, and then she began sporting these complex styles, IDEK. So I'm already slightly biased when it comes to things like this.

Then TPTB wants to try to make it a huge character statement? WTF? Instead of just admitting, 'We want to emphasize Stana's hotness to attract more viewers' (though I think she was beautiful in s1 with the simple hair), they want to pretend it's a bold move to estbalish greater character complexity. SERIOUSLY. *eyeroll* Yeah, I'd prefer they spent more time showing any growth in the PLOT as opposed to her HAIR. or random love interests, come on, people, there are better ways to develop a character than introducing yet another disposable bf
