I love Severitus and I know tons of Snape-mentors-Harry type fics. They were where I first started. Funny how your HP fandom life is an exact reflection of my own! *hugs you fondly

My recs are from a while ago, since I've moved into HG/SS now. There are probably more recent ones out there that I don't know. But these are all classics should keep you busy for a while :-)

Resonance by GreenGecko (darkirony) and its sequels, Revolution and Resolution are definitely epic-length, beautifully written, addictive.

In Blood Only by EM Snape, already mentioned above.

Harry Potter and the Battle of Wills by Jocelyn (jocelyncs)

Blood Magic by Gateway Girl (gatewaygirl)

Go with the Tide by Tantz, and its sequel, Go with the Tide II: Seeing is Believing, which contained inspiration for the latest chapter of Iridescent Snow, by the way ;-) (Which you haven't read yet *teasing sniff)

The original Severitus that started it all: (but be warned, it's an abandoned fic)--A Father's Sin by Severitus

The mother of all Snape-mentors-Harry: A Year Like None Other by aspeninthesunlight (aspenlight), for which I've actually written fan fictions of the fan fiction (my first foray into fic-writing!) Song from the Heart, Interregnum, and Drowning.

*bows

Enjoy :-)

And *squee* about the fic you just finished reading... I'm in a mood for more Severitus these days... will have to go check it out.

I have to warn you, though, there's an unexpected ship that crops up midway through. It really threw me, but it was written very realistically and I bought into it, but yeah, I did want to smash something when I first realized it was gonna happen. Wanna be spoiled or are you okay?

PS. The fics you've rec'd- there aren't any major ships, are there? Because I really love the mentor thing, but if I've gotta put up with Ron/Hermione in the background, I will trash my laptop or something drastic!

*thinks*

Blood Magic--there are 'ships, slash ones. Threw me, too, but I didn't find it terribly distracting. The father-son dynamic is so well-written.

In Blood Only--none that I can recall

AYLNO--no ships, at least none that are central enough for me to remember, it's so freaking epic and it was such a long time ago... But again, who cares, it's ridiculously good

Resonance--lots of random Harry ships. It's part of his character though--he's not well-adjusted enough in this fic for normal relationships. Snape has a very well-developed plot arc with an OFC

Battle of Wills- don't remember...

Go with the Tide--nothing till the end

I will say that none of these ships interfered too much with my reading, though. They're all good strong fics :)

Cool, thanks for elaborating. I might put Resonance on the back-burner, then. I'm sure it's wonderful and I'll get to it eventually, but I'm so loyal to SSHG that I can't think about it right now...*shrugs* Might as well ask me to stop breathing as put aside my ship, lol.

I don't mind the random Harry ships, or the slash. I mean, lol, have you read Problem with Purity? It and the author's other fic made me rather partial to Draco/Harry, which I never thought would happen, lmao. I do like Draco when he gets to be friends with Harry and/or Hermione. *sighs contentedly*

I'm thinking back to what you said about how all your ships always contain two people that hate other, are polar opposites, etc. While Severitus isn't a ship per se, I'm so fascinated by it for the same reason. Snape mentoring Harry is so unlikely that I just squee whenever i read a juicy fic that depicts this...

I think I like it because canon!Harry is just so blind and refuses to think of him as anything other than an evil villain and it pisses me off so much...to see him get some character development and maturity in fic makes me breathe easier, y'know? Learning to recognize the good points about Snape as they're reluctantly forced to work together, it's the kind of thing I wanted to see in canon and find soothing in fic.

Seriously. The Harry in The Best Revenge, I love him SO much. He's the kid with all the potential that went unfilled in the books, it's ridiculous how awesome he is.

But the thing is, it's severely AU, Snape is the one that rescues Harry from the Dursleys, so there's none of this mutual loathing and antagonism that you like, so if that's what you're looking for, I'm sorry. But it's very worthwhile reading anyway! The quartet are my favorite thing, and the way she handles Draco's muggle/muggleborn prejudice is AMAZING.
