I had a friend once who did a series of fics where she kept killing off this one character in the weirdest ways she could come up with. She had a lot of fun with those and actually gained a small following :D
trapping a person in a marriage is trapping a person in a marriage and it's always unconscionable. i know quite a few men who'd get indignant at the wife's behavior but women need to be angry over it, too. this is not a message that needs to be sent about how a "normal" woman handles her marriage. makes us all look like hags and worse
there's just too much of a double-standard about what is and isn't acceptable from each gender and, as long as that continues, really equality and trust won't be possible between us *grinds teeth*
it's nearly impossible to prove, but it's on the books in many US jurisdictions. it's probably more a statement of "this is unacceptable" than anything anyone's ever been serious about prosecuting. it's a notoriously difficult crime to prove, let alone successfully prosecute ... totally doesn't make it less unacceptable which is part of the reason that unrealistically portrayed rapes irk me. any time it's portrayed as in any way NOT a terrible thing, that's a problem. especially when young people read it
I always did wonder if Tonks was only faking the clumsiness for that reason. No WAY is a real Auror that clumsy (unless she cast a mind-controll spell on her examiners, lol). but, as you said, JRK is big on gender!fail (along with many other brands of fail, lol)
