I am with you on the OTP thing, I feel ya. I dont read fantasy but I am thinking about fanfiction and all the bed-hopping and what not, and maybe I am Victorian in that sense but I usually have one partner, like Hotch and Prentiss, and sure I have Gideon and Prentiss but it was when Hotch was married and as soon as he is available, its back to Hotch and Prentiss, it is always about the one couple....maybe I watched too many soaps growing up and have super couple issue. I dont know, but I feel how I feel. And while I dabble in multi-pairings and multi-ships, enjoying individual stories here and there, only that OTP story can give me that sheer and utter joy.
*evil grin* It felt good. And you know, even if she beats me every game for the rest of the year, I'm still going to have this moment to crow over. Mwahahaha.
OTPs rule. And fanfics offer an advantage in that area. You already know the characters and who's your favorite and who you want them to be with, so the main thing is to dig up some fics on that particular pairing. Okay, it's not quite that simple, since there's a hefty load of crappage out there, but at least you know what to expect going in, there aren't any nasty surprises. With regular books, the main character might be irritating, or they might not end up with who you want them to, it's just fraught with peril and potential heartbreak!
Lol, CM and TWW are prime examples of shows with multiple ships, I think every single pairing imaginable has been ficced! I actually had a hankering for Sam/Ainsley the other day, but that'd be pretty rare, I'm sure.
Go to www.westwingstories.com, the National Library, the mecca for so much West Wing fic you wont know what to do with yourself. That's where all 653 of my stories are and you will find a nice amount of Sam/Ainsley. I dont know if you'll want to read it all but there is some.
I get about 7 hours of sleep a night. But seriously, I write all the time. When I am at work, I sneak and write to fill the space, I write at home, I write while on LJ, I write on the weekends. I dont have a life....I am a writer.
