True Love

OMG, JMo is flawless. I saw a link to an article in which she addressed the topic of Swan Queen and despite my heavy heart, I could not prevent myself from clicking on it, even though I expected the worst - after insensitive comments from Ginnifer Goodwin and other actors on the show, I had every reason to believe it would be more negativity. AND ( Read more... )

I feel relieved by Jennifer's statement. Ginnifer has broken my heart countless times.

I have been very excited about Mulan being bisexual, especially because I'm bisexual and I need bisexuality represented in everything. I took the last scene of that episode as blatant canon that will be built upon through the remainder of the series, with my hopes that Mulan remains bisexual but has true love with a female (my hope would be EMMA, actually, because I don't feel any connection between Emma and any of the males nor do I ship Swan Queen because I prefer to ship canon [if it was canon I'd be into it]). HOWEVER I totally agree with you that on a show with intense romantic displays, it was way too little. BUT I like that at least it happened at all because I think there was no way that she was referring to Phillip. I can't even understand how anyone can argue it. That's just fans being biphobic and homophobic and in denial. BUT you're right that the writers should have made (and still can make) it so clear that the discussion would be moot.

So, to reiterate: you're right that it's too little, but I hope that we'll get a female love interest for her that will be blatant, and that this was just their initial set-up for it so that when Mulan does meet her female true love, we will have this scene as a prelude to it.

Oh, bb, Ginny is the worst, I'm sorry she's gotten to you as well. It's just so disappointing/enraging seeing that attitude from people in the public spotlight, spreading their ignorance around and having their opinions canonized by followers, agh.

I'm glad that Mulan's characterization on the show was a positive for you, at least the writers made some people happy! Yeah, if there's an orientation as marginalized as lesbians on tv, it's bisexuals - the number of people going, 'But Mulan was in love with Phillip and now she's a lesbian, wtf makes me eyeroll so hard. OHNOES, THERE ARE ONLY TWO BINARY OPTIONS, NOTHING ELSE EXISTS, IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S A WHOLE SPECTRUM OF SEXUALITY OUT THERE.

This would be lovely and I'd be on board with the writers again -although I'm not holding my breath, it'd be such a great affirmation of media's ability to move forward with the times and show greater representation and an accurate reflection of our society.

I'm with you here - like, I watched that scene and the Sleeping Warrior vibes were so far beyond subtextual, but unforch, with narrow-minded people or just those who are so straight-laced and can't see beyond their heternormative-colored glasses, this just wasn't enough to get through to them and it was reallydisappointing to me. I'd've squeed so hard for it being canon- although I'm NHF Mulan's heart being broken, nooooo!

Anyway, that was a long-winded way of saying I agree with you! I think we're both on the same page, just I'm being more cynical about it, but I'd love to be wrong! If this was setup for Mulan finding true love with another woman, I will explode with joy. :D

It has to be a set-up for that! It just has to be! I'm sad that we haven't seen Mulan since that episode but I hope that we see her soon and that all of this begins!

And I'm glad that you get that bisexuals are even more erased from everything, even though there are probably more of us in the world than anyone else. :O But people have to believe in us, first!!!
