a darcy/loki pimp post- 'and the heart is hard to translate, it has a language of its own...'

So, unlike 99% of Thor viewers, I (metaphorically) walked out of this shipping not Loki/Sif, which is the fan favorite, and not Loki/Jane, but Loki/Darcy. I know what you're thinking!

Ofc you're not intruding! I'm glad you're cool with me linking (I always feel like I've done something wrong when someone I've linked to knows about me, because of the lj alert thingy *meep*). I was randomly searching Darcy/Loki and was delighted to find your post- I've not listened to the fanmix yet, 'coz I literally only just found it half an hour ago while compiling links for this post, but the art was so pretty and the song selections with their quotes look very appropriate, so yes. ♥

Plus, I Author My Own Disaster? SO perfect for this pairing. *applauds* Lovely work!

ETA. Lol, I got so carried away about it, I forgot to address the rest of your comment:

Loki tends to get woobified by the Thor fandom in general, which can make fic where he's in-character (especially when paired with someone) difficult to find.

IKR? Look, I think he's immensely sympathetic and I didn't think he was a huge villain because his motivations were so understandable, and that was a wonderful thing about the movie, how it wasn't black-and-white. But unforch Loki fans take that too far and make it like he's entirely the victim and everybody else are the bad guys! O.o Like, let's not emasculate him and make all his actions a response to the others without any input of his own.

That's part of the appeal of L/D to me, as I love gals who won't take shit from anyone, even if the person in question is a Norse god

IKR?! I love it, I can so see her tasering him, lol, I love that in a girl. ^_^ She's not going to let him walk all over her or be submissive, it'd be so wonderful with their give-and-take and his reluctant admiration for her feisty nature. But without that annoying trope where 'girl must trample over dude to show what a feminist she is' that bothers me. She's just crack jokes and make it her mission to get him to CHILL THE HELL OUT, lol.

Ah, excellent! Some folk (and it's understandable, I suppose) can be particular/territorial about their ljs, so I love it when people aren't afraid to just jump right in and comment/link/etc. - especially when it involves fanwork I've made and shared. I hope that you enjoy it when you're able to give it a listen! The song I pulled the title from, The Past Is A Grotesque Animal was one of my first selections for the mix, and that line is so, so perfect from both of their perspectives. Everything really fell into place with this mix (usually, I take a month or so to compile and fret over them).

Oh, definitely. I love that he was so capable of mass destruction, yet also could be very vulnerable. Loki is very easy to sympathize with and there were moments where my heart couldn't help but break for him, which is part of the wonderful complexity that comprises him and colors his interactions with those around him (I very much loved his relationship with Frigga, who he still very much viewed as his mother, in spite of everything he learned about himself).

I love how Darcy provides balance to the others and the situations they find themselves in, especially since she is, by all accounts, a regular girl in an extraordinary circumstance. She's just so delightfully human. It's almost how ridiculous how perfectly matched she'd be with Loki. He could really use someone in his life to bring him a bit of levity and humor (and to tase him if need be).

Something I've tired of in general with fiction is how women characters are either written as completely hardened or completely submissive, whereas the men get to be total sex gods or totally infantile. Fortunately, the fanfic that gets Loki and Darcy really gets them. I'm sort of pleasantly surprised at how much good stuff there is out there for them.

I'm not at all particular, lol. If I want to keep something private, I'll flock it, otherwise anything is fair game. And man, I'd have to be pretty mean to be like 'DUDE, YOUR FANMIX IS GREAT, BUT I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU.' :P

I'm d/l it now! The computer I was on earlier was really slow and it wasn't going, but it's taking off now, so yay!

Ha, that title on its own- I like those evocative titles that give you this sense of history and details of a story and everything. And with that inspiration, no wonder you were able to compile this mix so quickly! (I did a fanmix recently for a challenge and it was so haaaard, so I feel your pain on the usual fretting that happens)

Yesss, all this. You describe him in such a wonderful way, I kind of get all incoherent, but that is him exactly and why I fangirl him.

I do think the writers have done amazing work with his character, how this man can fully intend to commit genocide and yet you get how his head went to that place and why it seemed reasonable to him, why he was so desperate because he had to prove himself and when he felt that he had failed...

My god, I was tearing up on his behalf, ngl.

I very much loved his relationship with Frigga, who he still very much viewed as his mother

It's nice to see how those bonds still lasted and he didn't break with her, despite what he knew.

I'm not going to quote all you said on Darcy, lol, just know that ITA with you. That's the appeal with her, in my eyes, that she doesn't need to be a goddess or a genius or anything, just her being herself is enough and it really elevates all the dynamics in the different relationships. I giggled at her interactions with Thor, they were funny because he's so easygoing and willing to go with her photo-snapping, and I can only imagine the shenanigans that she'd get up to with Loki around, haha!

He could really use someone in his life to bring him a bit of levity and humor (and to tase him if need be).

THIS IS ALL I WAAAAANT. It needs to happen. *whimpers* But I can live with them never meeting in canon if people keep writing. I need epic-length fics. *iz greedy* BIGBANGS, PEOPLE. lol, so entitled

I just feel like Loki is all GLOOM-AND-DOOM and LIFE-OR-DEATH and he needs Darcy to put him on this third path where he's not angsting over everything 24/7 and he has a place where he's accepted. IDK if you've read that 'So He Won't Break' fic, but that's the underlying theme of it. 'Darcy thinks Loki needs a friend, that you know, isn’t still super angry at him. *sighs happily*

You and I are so on the same level it's not funny. I do wish more writers were able to explore the whole spectrum of female-ness between being an aggressive hardass who would die before revealing any softness or a doormat who would die before making a decision on her own.

I'm sort of pleasantly surprised at how much good stuff there is out there for them

If you have any recs for them, I'd love to hear it...

PS. On a random note, if you haven't seen Once Upon a Time, it might be up your alley. The female characters on that show are so well-written and pretty much drive the plot. And the female villain is given the Loki treatment, where you totally get why she does what she does, or at least, sympathize.
