'and you want three wishes: one to fly the heavens, one to swim like fishes...'

TV: Mother asked me to find a Xena ep that she could show her class, since they’re studying Greek monsters, but for a show based (at least initially) on Greek mythology, it surprisingly has like, ZERO Greek monsters. While there are references to famous figures in Greek myth, no monsters! Can you believe it? I had to go d/l a couple Hercules episodes instead. *pout* (if anyone knows of any monsters I missed, tell me!)

I ended up watching Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior ‘coz it was on and…yeah, I cannot get over how much it sucks. I mean, FFS, there’s a bomb in the building, and instead of getting an innocent kid to safety, the main dude decides to chat to him about the story of Abraham and God asking him to sacrifice his son. *headdeskwallfloor* I guess we’re supposed to take from this that his team member, the bomb disposal guy who (natch) defuses the bomb a second before it goes off, is the angel in parallel to the fable, but what I take from it is that the team leader is a giant douchebag who stalls a kid in a building which is about to explode, rather than doing the responsible thing and evacuating him to safety. UGH. *stabs*

*sighs* I hate to be a downer, but I’m not happy at all with this Castle spoiler.

Retreading Mentalist’s territory, really, show? We already went through this! The change from a lovable, fatherly boss who has a nurturing, supportive style to a female boss who clashes with the show’s lead female, who has a more combative style and with whom there is now workplace conflict. UGH. I have no idea why they always have to cause drama between women. It really frustrates me.

I hope I’m underestimating them and it turns out awesome- I mean, remember Jordan Shaw? I LOVED that woman, and I wasn’t expecting to, so maybe it’ll work out similarly; they’ll try and one-up each other to begin with, Beckett will be a little threatened and trying to deal with the shift in hierarchy, they’ll argue on how to deal with matters, but then they’ll earn each other’s respect and there will be mutual admiration and smooth sailing from thereon out!

Wait. No, the words ‘unspoken battle’ don’t sound conducive to harmony anytime soon. DAMN IT. I absolutely hate how they want to create conflict where it’s not necessary. I want my happy shiny team dynamic, and it was always great in the past, knowing that Montgomery would have their backs. Now I gotta deal with some CTB who’s gonna rant at Beckett about toeing the line and try to put her in her place and all?
I gotta say, I have issues with how that article is worded- ‘swap PMS horror stories’, really? Because they’re women, obv the only thing they’ll connect over will involve their periods. OF COURSE.

On another note, the article makes brief mention of Castle’s new love interest. *sigh* Look, I’m over the Castle/Beckett ship. I don’t want it to happen anymore. In fact, I never wanted it canon in the first place, but they decided to toy with that for like a season now, even though Beckett has a boyfriend and it gives me skeevy feelings when a ship has emotional infidelity going on. Now Castle’s possibly going to have a girlfriend?

a) That’s interesting, after he admitted that he loves Beckett. (I guess he consoles himself with her rejection by hooking up with some woman on the rebound?)

b) Good for him. It’s been painful seeing him with his heart on his sleeve while Beckett’s completely ignorant, even with him practically telegraphing his feelings every episode. But she’s with another man and their timing is always THE WORST, so why not give it a go with another woman?

ETA. I just found out she’s being played by Kristin Lehman! Apparently it’s not a recurring role, so I guess she won’t be a Josh parallel- and I’m disappointed, I think this actress deserves a regular gig, damn it! (side-note: she was in the short-lived series Drive with Nathan Fillion, so it's adorable that it'll be a reunion for them! I'm more and more excited for this! PLEASE BE WELL-EXECUTED AND DON'T HURT HER CHARACTER, PLEEEEEASE)

c) The show doesn’t seriously expect the Castle/Beckett UST to be the foundation of the show with this development, does it? I mean, I’m not saying people are gonna stop shipping it, but I do think there are probably other people out there like me who are just gonna go, ‘Beckett’s with Josh, Castle’s now with another woman, I’m just sick of it, I’m done’. At some point, you just gotta figure that if they’re not making a move despite clearly having feelings for one another, it’s not meant to be.

I don’t believe will-they-won’t-they is a problem unless you do what Castle’s done and made it obvious that one or both characters are in love and then continue to keep them apart. I really, really wish they’d gone the Mulder & Scully route where the PARTNERSHIP was the foundation of the show, and romantic feelings were inferred by viewers, instead of making it canon and then not having the couple get together. At least with X-files, you got that Mulder and Scully were devoted to each other and preferred spending time together on cases than being anywhere else in the world with anyone else. No external significant, long-term relationships with third parties, just a lovely intense bond that you could read as platonic or pre-romance as you pleased. After all, we watch the show for our lead characters, not for their relationships with guest characters with no real relevance to the plot except as an obstacle to the OTP.

HMM. I don’t want to be controversial and insensitive, but at the same time, I don’t get it and I’d rather say this now and hopefully someone can explain it or…well, I’ll look like an ass, but then they always say there’s no such thing as a stupid question. (we’ll see)

I know everyone hates the rich mom, I’ve heard a lot of negative talk about the privileged parents, but looking into a Cochlear implant seems reasonable. You have a deaf child, you have the technology to help her hear, so…what’s wrong with using it so that she’s not at a disadvantage? But Daphne’s mother got all worked up and lectured her and her bio-mom about how she’s part of a special community and if she gets the implant, she won’t be part of either world or something? IDK.

Look, if it was something like ‘here’s a machine that will make you white and thereby help you avoid all the racial discrimination in the world’, yeah, I’d get why it’s so radical and shocking and horrible for someone to suggest you deny your heritage in order to conform. But her being deaf, that’s not…gah, I don’t see how it’s like she’d be turning her back on her birthright if she implemented measures to overcome it, y’know? She got ill, she became deaf and it’s a disadvantage that she’s frustrated with and miserable over. There’s a solution to that, something that will make her be able to hear so she won’t have to work twice as hard as everyone and compensate all the time, that will make her life easier. I don’t see how that’s an awful thing.

But then, I’ve never faced anything like that, so maybe it’s just not obvious to me. I just don’t think that her mom’s being fair in trying to guilt her about giving up the special community she won’t be part of if she does go for the Cochlear implant. ‘You won’t be part of either world, you’ll be in between’- like that’s the worst thing in life?

Truly didn’t mean to be offensive here, if it’s upset anyone, I’m really sorry. I’m just confused and trying to work this out. Please don’t hate me?

In other news, I thought people didn’t like Bay? Thought she was a major brat? Well, in ep 6, at least, I found her really likeable and sweet, and I thought the girls’ relationship was quite lovely.

Bit emotional, actually, with the heart-to-heart! I hope the bond is developed and maintained in the next couple eps. It's so nice to have two girls who can get along and support each other- I know it's too early to invest in that, because there's always the possibility they'll be backstabbing each other in the next ep, but my fingers are crossed that they'll continue being adorable and supportive of each other. I thought it was great how Bay accepted her being at her school, showing her the way and encouraging her, while also being cutely snarky, 'We practically live together, if I can't handle you being at my school for an hour, I have bigger problems!'

(Random, but with the curls and coloring, Bay kinda reminds me of a young Inara off Firefly, no?)

I also really liked her interactions with Emmett (who is so cute, omg, I feel like a horrible perve, ack, how old is this kid even? I want to kill myself for noticing his eyes and his dimple and just his precious face) and the way they managed to communicate. I would've thought it'd be hard to get the message across, but the show did a really good job with making it obvious- or breezing through the inevitable moments when no amount of charades would help! 'Anakin Skywalker', LMAO. I really, really love these two. Can I plz haz moar? *hopeful eyes*

And Daphne! Tbh, I sometimes found it hard to concentrate in what was going on in her scenes because the actress is just exquisite.

I cannot get over how beautiful she is. Bay is adorable and I want to squish her, but god, Daphne’s just breath-taking. Even when making funny faces, that wrinkle in her brow, D'AWWW. I love how independent she is without being a brat about it. You get characters that are whiny over every little thing, and she's just a breath of fresh air. 'Let me stand on my own two feet- but if I need your help, I'll accept it, I'm not infallible.' Awesome! Too many teens- and adults!- act like they know everything.

In any case, I didn’t think this show would appeal to me, but it’s really got me hooked at this point, so thanks, guys, if I hadn’t seen so many posts saying how great it is, I’d never have checked it out! Thanks in particular to bemysty, whose (lengthy!) tv post provided the kick in the butt I needed to finally give this series a chance!

The list of ships I asked y’all to guess! The ones in bold are (obv) the ones nobody guessed. They were pretty obscure, lol. Except for the Vampire Diaries one! Maybe I should’ve written ‘he tore her throat open and she set him on fire’ instead? Talk about dysfunctional, lol.

1. Hannibal/Clarice- he’s a serial killer. She’s the FBI agent trying to capture him.
2. Callie/Cris (Next)- he’s a psychic. She’s the…FBI agent trying to…er, capture him. Anyone getting déjà vu?
3. Miss Parker/Jarod (The Pretender)- he’s escaped from an organization that kidnapped and experimented on him. She’s the agent sent to bring him back to be their lab rat.
4. Jareth/Sarah (Labyrinth)- he kidnaps her brother and sends her on a dangerous quest to retrieve the boy.
5. Wendy/Hook (Peter Pan)- his driving motivation in life is to kill her childhood sweetheart. And he’s also tried to make her walk the plank once.
6. Beetlejuice/Lydia- he’s dead. (Or undead?) And he’s been hired to terrify her family into fleeing their house. Also, they end up married at one point. *g*
7. Dastan/Tamina (Prince of Persia)- he invaded her kingdom. She’s tried to kill him. Also, they end up married.
8. Susan/Teatime (Hogfather)- he’s got a plan to kill a most important figure in human culture). She’s the grand-daughter of the embodiment of a…er…state of…being…and basically they try to kill each other every time they meet.
9. Bonnie/Damon- he nearly killed her once. She’s used her powers to torture and nearly kill him.
10. Rath/Electra (Assassins)- he’s an assassin. She’s the mark.
11. Jackson/Lisa (Red Eye)- he’s an assassin. She’s his pawn. Also, he’s holding her father hostage.
12. Adelle/Dominic (Dollhouse)- he’s a spy who became her right-hand man. Then he shot her and she basically lobotomized him.
13. Adama/Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)- he threw her in the brig after disagreeing with a decision she made. Then she staged a breakout and took part of the fleet with her.

Vidspam: Ooh, too bad I only just rediscovered my Invisible Man dvds, I think Darien/Claire would have been the perfect addition to this list of creepy, disturbing ships. Okay, the show played it for laughs and worked the light-hearted, teamy goodness, buddy-buddy angle, but I mean, the first thing she does is shoot him with a tranquilizer, then play mind games that involve her coolly observing him as he goes slowly mad from a sort of blood poisoning, deliberately withholding the drug that would relieve his symptoms so that she can come in at the last minute, make a power play and gain his cooperation and trust.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s masterfully done and I applaud her style, but yeah, creepy! He’s dependent on her goodwill to keep him healthy and sane, so he learns to see her as an ally because he needs her. Considering her first line to him is, ‘I’m your Keeper’, yeah, this is all kinds of unhealthy, lol. WHY IS THERE NO GOOD FANFIC FOR THEM, ARGH?! DYING AT THE LACK OF FANDOM SERVICE FOR THIS SHIP.

Claire: It is my job to keep you safe.
Darien: That’s a bunch of crap. You care about me like you care about that rat.
Claire: And what makes you think I don’t care about the rat?
*g*
