OMG, the Madoka OST! AWESOMENESS. I have not been this excited for an OST since the Deathly Hallows Pt 1 soundtrack came out. I’ve been playing Kalafina’s Magia over and over because it is so epic, and now I have this! *bounces* I need to do a Madoka post sometime. I just haven’t been able to rewatch it ever since the finale, lol, my heart just burst from all my feelings, but it is too amazing for me not to eventually babble about to an insanely long and analytical degree. And since I just found caps for eps 1-4, that day will be soon. I am inspired by these shiny HD caps!

Okay, which awesome person recommended The Dragon of Trelian? I’mma guess it might’ve been sleepy_sundays or weird_fin, but I really have no clue mystery solved! It was afigureofspeech! <3 Much love to you, bb! The book's MADE OF WIN. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited over fantasy and this? Stole my heart.
Look at that badass cover! Usually, the chick being behind the dude suggests weakness or fragility, like he’s protecting her, but that proprietary hand, that predatory gaze, it totally subverts that! And hello, a freaking DRAGON. I do tend to judge books by covers, lol, if it’s got a good cover, I’m optimistic (even if I have often been let down *sigh*), and yay, this one lived up to my expectations!
I love the friendship, I loved how they were kids and not magically all-powerful and perfect, but they were also not TSTL (too stupid to live) and they didn’t blunder around foolishly because ‘kids always screw up and make the worst decisions imaginable’. This is something I’ve tired of in HP- they’re young, so they automatically have to make the dumbest choices and be ignorant or idiotic and rail at authority and adults are useless and all that.
Here, the kids know they’re out of their depth and they don’t deliberately take on more than they can handle because they think they know best, they’re thrust into situations that are too big for them by circumstances beyond their control and they cope as well as they can and do the best job they’re able and OH, they are just so wonderful. *squishes them both*
I love that Calen isn’t the typical ‘struggling wizard’- it’s not the usual thing where the apprentice has a tough time with magic and they’re supposed to live up to some destiny but they’re not good enough and they have to find themselves and overcome their self-doubt or whatever. I get bored of that so fast. (I like competent characters, it’s a failing of mine) He’s a kid, he has a teacher that perhaps doesn’t know the best way to handle him and lets him slack off because he’s got more important things to do and Calen just shrugs it off and does his own thing and doesn’t bother with lessons. (this doesn’t annoy me as it does in HP because Calen does not have a tradition of dark wizards trying to kill him, whereas Harry still didn’t bother learning ANYTHING even after he learned of the bloody prophecy)
But when it gets tough, Calen does show he has talent and he has smarts and uses his brain (omg, a thinking hero! WOW) and given a reason, he does apply himself to his work and even goes above and beyond, finding books on his own initiative and doing independent study to learn more. *pets him fondly* I love characters that are willing to learn! Studying being seen as a good thing instead of a chore to be pawned off on one's female acquaintance! <3
I also adore the dynamic of his friendship with Meg- he’s the one that’s cautious and tries to rein her in and keep her from acting impulsively. Cool! I’m so used to the headstrong, willful hero with zero impulse control that has to be sat on by his logical, rational female friend that it’s nice to see the tables turned. And it’s not that she’s dumb or incapable of sensible thought, it’s her upbringing, she was raised as a princess, so it makes sense that she’d not have the same anxieties or concerns as he does, she has to learn to put aside the princess persona and look at things from a different angle and find a way to attack a problem sideways instead of striding in and being all, ‘I am Princess Meglynne and you are in the wrong and my word is good enough to have you executed’.
Their friendship is the best. I love them as buddies and I seriously hope that in the sequel (there’s a sequel! But in a year *pout*) there is no romance between them at all because the last guy and girl that I loved as platonic friends hooked up and I was SO FURIOUS AND ARGH, so these two, please, don’t go there. Just don’t. For me?
Also, lol, I kept seeing Serek as kinda like Snape. Def not as bitter and resentful, but just…yeah. IDK, I see Snape everywhere. If you show me a strict wizard mentor who’s rather antisocial with a scathing wit, I can’t help but think of Snape, okay? Shut up. :P
I’m trying very hard to avoid spoilers, so I won’t say anything more, but if anyone’s read this and wants to discuss, please go ahead! I’m very giddy and flaily with love over this book rn! ♥ If you haven’t read it, if you’re into young adult fantasy, give it a go!

RL: This is gonna sound so petty, but ugh, when I was on the bus this morning, a chick gets on and is all adorably flustered and going, ‘I’m so sorry, I just realized I have no money on me, and I walked all the way down from Wandana Heights.’ (down a big hill) AND THE BUS DRIVER LET HER GET ON FOR FREE. I was appalled. I’m sure I’d never get away with that. If it was a dude, he wouldn’t have gotten a free ride. But oh no, Miss Pretty Brunette with the Melodious Voice bats her eyelashes and gets away with it. ARGH.
If you think this rant is inspired by jealousy- you’re damn right it is! If I could get away with that, I wouldn’t be so irritated, lol.

I have a habit of emailing myself links to fics, pics and various articles I might want to post about. One such article was this: Woman Presents Accused Rapist’s Penis to Police.
I…don’t even know what to say about that. :O Torn between ‘YOU GO, GIRL’ and ‘OMFG, OUCH’. (he claims she was a jilted ex-lover, I’m really hoping that ain’t the case, because a woman fighting back and cutting off her rapist’s dick is just hardcore. Besides, she went to the police with it, I don’t think a deranged woman out for revenge would do that?)
I raised my eyebrows at this line, "We will arrest him once his condition gets better", the police spokesman said, ‘coz um, considering they were unable to reattach it…I doubt he’s gonna just get better.
The thing that had me in helpless giggles, though? Just after I sent this article to myself, guess what the very next email I got was…spam mail advertising Penis Growth Free trial. THE TIMING IS JUST RIDICULOUS. *snickers* I am so bad, but the coincidence was just hilarious. That guy might wanna look into this trial…
