I haven’t written an ep reaction in a long while, but since everyone and their dog is doing a Castle finale post, well, let me hop on the bandwagon. (caps courtesy of rawr_caps- I did the combining, tho, as you can prob tell by the amateurish blends, lol)

before that, a bit of backtracking- brief notes on Knockdown )

the moment when he ripped that picture apart, because you know, that's his captain,a nd person he looked up to. And Ryan saw exactly how hurt he was, and how unwilling to admit to hismelf that it really happened

I...honestly don't know where I'd fall. As a viewer, I'm more objective, I'm like 'HE DID WRONG, GET HIM, DON'T DESTROY EVIDENCE, DO THE RIGHT THING'. But if a mentor of mine, someone I admired and respected and liked, had done something...IDEK. I don't think I'd be able to turn them in or get them in trouble. I couldn't turn off my feelings that easy, y'know? (obv if they did something against me, like tried to kill me or whatever, I'd change my tune, but in this case, yeah, ouch)

then he sees the shot coming but isn't quick enough

That's the worst part. I think he's going to be blaming himself a lot for that, for not seeing it sooner, for not reacting quicker, for getting to her too late. *pets him*

she doesn't need him protecting her, because she's an experienced homicide detective and all that, and I think people fail to consider that it's him who needs to protect her - simply because he loves her and doesn't want to see her hurt. That's not really rational, but it's very human, and that's why I love the idea.

ITA. Just because she's a detective doesn't mean she can't get hurt! I mean, like Martha said, it's her job, she's going to be put in danger, and if Castle was all, 'Stay at home in the kitchen and cook' *g* that'd be ridic, but I don't see anything wrong with him looking out for her and wanting to make sure she's safe! Taking choices away would be wrong, but protecting her isn't a bad thing and it's not dismissing her competence or ability as a cop.
