Hatred of UMD Student Services and the like..

So, we've long been having a joke at the University of Maryland about the terrible advising, lack of rooms, and carnal transportation department. But never did I dream that one day, my future would depend on the blunderings of the Dep. of Education's Student Services Department. Today I called because I had sent my fingerprinting to them to be sent off. I did not, however, see that the check I wrote them had cleared, so I thought I would check. Some stupid brat who has no idea what he's doing (probably a student), told me that they had not received my fingerprints and that they were not sent off. But he would ask his higher up when he came back from lunch-- in an hour. Ha, so there I was, fretfully awaiting my sentence, knowing full well there was little I could do to fix the problem. My mind was racing to a variety of possibilities such as "maybe if I go up there right now, I can get them done again and it'll be ok," "how long could it take to do a background check.. no more than a week right?" Going to the Criminal Justice department homepage, however, brought my world crashing down-- 10-15 business days to clear. I go to work August 18th. That's 2 or 3 weeks I don't have. Sensing the problems that would arise should I not have them "finalized," I immediately panicked. Who wouldn't? Well, a whirlwind of disappointment flooded over me as I went to grab my keys in order to go get them done again.. I was desperate. Howard County Public Schools won't let you in the building without having them done.

Well, my phone rang again. it was the head of the Student Services Department apologizing that the student had told me they didn't have them. They had been sent off to get completed and he gave me the tracking number. So I have both, and everything's ok now. So much for an hour and a half's fretting.

So yeah, after my relief faded, I wanted to kill the Student Services department. FIRST of all, the date they gave me for sending it out was July 30th-- that's about 2 weeks after I KNOW they received it. So, hopefully it'll take the 10 business days to be completely taken care of. Otherwise, I have no idea what will happen. It should be ok tho. The director told me to contact him if I had any problems with Howard County, and they would verify things.

So now I'm ok. well, alright. I'm gonna go now. I hope you all are having a good day.
