Random Update Fannish Post of DOOM

Sep 15, 2007 00:34

So, it's kind of been a while, huh? Heh. Whoops. Internet's been less than reliable at this new place, you see. And there hadn't been much to talk about before then. But I've suddenly had a really busy week.

For instance, Booster Gold #2 came out on Wednesday! \o/ It was great, of course. Not quite as super-dee-dooper awesome as the first issue, but considering how very super-dee-dooper the first issue was, I don't think I'll count it as a strike against it. Booster and Guy are both full of the woobie. And the teases about Booster's dad are going to drive me insane, I'm sure of it. Want info now! Lordy, I don't think I would've survived reading Booster's original series as a monthly. Putting off the origin story until the 6th issue? Madness! :O Spoiled by reading the entire thing in one afternoon? Me? Probably!

Bamboo yarn is unbelievably amazing. Joy told me that is was amazingly soft and wonderful and demanded that everyone at Superdickery go to their local Michael's to feel the bamboo yarn up, and I did honestly believe her, so I went to Michael's and I saw a knitted swatch of the bamboo and was all "Oh. Joy says I should feel this because it's amazing. *Feels* Oh my God!" because it is just. That. Amazing. I bought three little skeins and made a scarf. Wheeeeeee.

And my Booster Gold action figure finally arrived! \o/ I ordered him and Supernova, what? Early June or July? One of those J-months. But I do recall promising pictures of an EPIC BATTLE with Unicron, and I do occasionally manage to deliver on my promises!

Special bonus pictures!

(This gets at least twice as hilarious when you realize that Unicron is not physically capable of reaching across his chest and actually grabbing Megs here. :D)

And there's this meme doing the rounds that I did with some somewhat interesting results, if I do say so, myself.

*Cracks fingers* I've never really done one of these before, so let's see how this goes. I've decided to stick to DC comics here and even made a gender-balanced list! Amazing!

First, select your ten fictional characters by whichever method you like best. Then answer the questions below.

1. Beatriz "Bea" DaCosta (AKA Fire)
2. Guy Gardner (A Green Lantern AKA Warrior)
3. Theodore "Ted" Kord (AKA Blue Beetle II)
4. Jaime Reyes (AKA Blue Beetle III)
5. Michael "Booster" Carter (AKA Booster Gold AKA Supernova)
6. Bruce Wayne (AKA Batman)
7. Diana Prince (AKA Wonder Woman)
8. Tora Olafsdotter (AKA Ice Maiden II AKA Ice)
9. Stephanie "Steph" Brown (AKA Spoiler AKA Robin IV)
10. Michelle "Shel" Carter (AKA Goldstar II)

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Team 1: Bea, Ted, Booster, Diana, and Steph. Leader's Diana, Steph's Lancer by virtue of not fitting anywhere else, Booster's Big Guy, Ted's Smart Guy, and Bea's The Chick.
Team 2: Guy, Jaime, Bruce, Tora, and Shel. This one doesn't really work, but Bruce is Leader, Jaime's Lancer, Guy is Big Guy, Bruce doubles as Smart Guy, and Shel and Tora are going to have to share The Chick.
I have no idea who I'd switch, since Team 1 works almost perfectly except for Steph, but Team 2 is just pure train wreck. Maybe switch Steph for Shel just to make Team 1 even more walking-sexual-tension-y.

2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

So we end up with Girl!Booster, Guy!Tora (OK, poor choice of shorthand there), and Guy!Shel. Booster and Shel both being switched is very convenient, since you go from having a Michael and Michelle to having a Michelle and Michael. Yay, twins! That hilarious coincidence aside, the actual questions! I'd say that Tora's would change the most, on account of her BFF relationship with Bea and her OTPness with Guy. Shel's story-arc would probably change the least, since there was not very much of it and none of it depended on her gender. Tora would have to have either a huge personality change or else she/he'd just come off as flamingly, stereotypically gay, and nobody really wants that. The twins would make fairly convincing members of the opposite sex as is, though.

3. Compare the matchups of 5 & 8 and 2 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?

Booster/Tora and Guy/Steph. *Splorfles* Ummmm, I'm going to magically bump Steph's age up to something a little more acceptable than 16 and say in this strange, theoretical world she's, ummm, 20. 20's a good, uncreepy age. And in that case, ummm.... Y'know, this is difficult. I want to say that Booster/Tora wouldn't work, but I'd also want to say that Guy/Tora wouldn't work if I didn't know that the opposite was true, so there's that. And I can't tell if Guy and Steph would get along stunningly or if they'd try to kill each other, because both seem to be quite possible and likely. So on compatibility I'm going to waffle and say it's a draw. As for more plausible to the home culture, that's Guy/Steph by a long shot, since Booster's home culture strikes me as being rather anti-meta and Tora's home culture is anti-outsiders.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Team: Ted, Jaime, and Batman. I would pay good money to see this team-up in canon. Anyway, this one seems pretty easy to me. Jaime handles the social challenge, Ted the mental one, and Bats the physical one. Alternatively, Ted handles social, Bats mental, and Jaime physical, depending on how hardcore the physical is. Woo for people with somewhat varied skillsets!

5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Diana as Booster's boss? Hawt. Ummm, I think I'd say that prior to Booster's new ongoing, he would've tried very hard to impress her and would have been very enamored of her in general. Following the status quo change, he'd probably screw up on purpose and be rather irreverent. Diana, for her part, would probably be mystified at this.

6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

Bea in Batman's continuity. Ummm, this is what I get for keeping it all in one universe, eh? Well, the Bat-books are generally separate from the DCU proper anyway, so I'm going to choose to interpret this as Bea working in Gotham specifically. Well, Bea's a meta, so that'd probably screw some stuff up by default, since a lot of Batman stuff only works with non-meta-ness. But I'm sure it could gloss over evenly enough, I guess. I'm not sure what role Bea would have specifically, though.

7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

Ted and Diana, eh? Ummm, I'm sure they'd agree on World Peace being a good thing. Possibly Ted could convince her to let "Get Batman to lighten up" be one of them. Diana would probably not let Ted wish to get rich, so I guess Ted would just go with whatever Diana wanted on the third wish. Can't say I know what she'd want, though.

8. 6 and 3 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?

Batman and Ted attack Bea. Bea definitely doesn't stand a chance against Bats, on account of him being the Goddamn Batman. So Ted's kind of superfluous here. Which is probably just as well because Bea would incapacitate him if it was just the two of them and it would not be pleasant for him.

9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Bea, Bats, Diana, and Steph. Bea, Diana, and Steph force ol' Brucie-boy to be Santa, of course. Diana is generally Diana-y, which is god enough. Steph is totally Bat!Santa's Robin!Elf, of course. I have no ideas regarding Bea. I try to filter Bea through Christmas and I get a skanky Mrs. Claus outfit, which is not what we want for small, depressed orphans.

10. 3 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

Can Ted and Shel do it? No, they're obviously way too busy making out. *Coughs* That aside, if Ted's allowed to tinker slightly with the transportation (using only materials available before 1900, for the sake of fairness), they probably could do it easily.

Y'know what? I really ought to get myself an Official Icon of Fannish Glee. This is a horrible deficit I have here. Of course, that means I'd have to figure out what to use for it, and oh, there are so many things that fill me with fannish glee....

batman, booster gold, knitting, green lantern, ted kord, comics, spoiler, jaime reyes, wonder woman, transformers, fire, blue beetle, i'm a raging carterholic, michelle carter, superheroes, dc, guy gardner, ice, meme
