It doesn't feel like I just had five days without school. Perhaps this is because on three of the days I spent a good bit of time shining walls. My father is a faux painter (in case you dont know) and he was covering walls in a ridiculously large mansion with Venetian plaster (I'm not sure if I should have capitalized that). My job the first day was to burnish the Venetian plaster with BLUE STEEL! A small steel plate called blue steel that you bend against the wall and rub in circles. The plate was smaller than my hand and the walls about ten to twelve feet. This didn't do enough, so the next two days of work we waxed and burnished that with a machine. It wasn't a bad job. It feels kind of nice to be working on some Venetian plaster in an amazing 6 million dollar mansion, listening to Wilco live.
Also the mansion had a hidden bathroom behind a swinging wall panel.
And a spiral staircase with a gold-leaf dome over it.
And a pool made from fake rocks (realistic looking) that had a small cave you could swim to and lounge in.
And a deluxe pool house with a loft.
And incredible grounds.
And the monthly payments are 30 thousand dollars. Absurd no?
This was a nice house.
I also just saw a movie about Palestinian suicide bombers called "Paradise Now." It's foreign and quite good. It shows the Palestinian perspective on Israel. It's strange for such a movie to be at the Carousel, for even though it seems to condemn suicide bombing its definitely not pro-Israel.
