on waiting and hope

Waiting is hard.

Patience is harder.

Hope may be the hardest thing of all, in the face of all the waiting and disappointment we writers have to endure.

Today my garden sent me a message of hope.

In 2000, our gardener planted a couple of wisteria vines to grow on the fence on the north side. Wisteria apparently take seven years to bloom. In 2006, 2007, and 2008, there was nothing but a leafy vine. The thing was definitely alive, but no sign of a flower anywhere.

Today, I noticed the first lavendar-coloured flowers on the wisteria! No photo because of camera problems, but here's something similar from Google images.

I think Mother Nature is trying to tell me something.
