I do hear of fandom shifting to Discord, which is more communicative again and I like it for that, but I feel like it's more useful once you have already found your crowd than to actually enter new fandoms or ships. Like, I'm in a number of discord servers, but for the most part I'm hanging out there with the same people I would be talking to one-on-one anyway, so I dunno how useful it as a "wider" fandom experience, you know?
Like, everyone who knows everyone (or a selected few) hangs out in places you literally have to be invited to know about. It's not like old comms in LJ or in DW or other forum-based comms. It's not very inclusive, and I do feel there's nothing left to... Aaah...
To record?
Take LJ (or DW) - if we have a convo, it's easy enough to find it, and it might be visible for all kinds of folks who are in the same comm. It allows ppl to have a sneak peek at the ones' involved in the convo, and thus new friendships can be forged.
I kind of miss that, tbh, no matter how communicative Discord is ):
Discord does actually record the messages, it has a pretty effective search engine which lets you search back for months if you remember the right keywords. so it's not wholly useless for re-reading an old convo. but of course nothing compared to how readable it was in DW/LJ comms, or how easily you could go back and read a conversation about a specific topic which happened months ago
And of course, you can't read until you've already joined the Discord (and I'm not sure if you can read anything prior to your joining) so it doesn't help you determine whether you want to join a server at all - so you have another reason besides acquiring links to play it safe and stick to servers which your friends are already in.
Altogether I feel like this makes Discord fandom very cliquey.
On the bright side, every now and then I do keep running into people from Transformers fandom in Star Wars and it's always lovely - we even ran in the same circles at the same time, though we never met.
That's lovely, though! Haah, I love that kind of stuff, tbh. I literally started shipping DenSu because of the stuff you posted for Hetalia, lolol, and here we were in TF fandom both of us <3
Aww, that's so sweet! And yes, it's so great when you discover new fandoms through friends, or discover that your new friends used to be into the same things you were into.

I don't like cliques, never did anyone any good ):
My ultimate goal is literally to revive any kind of forum-based arena for the good old gang. I miss us, all of us <3
