i got off the bus and took this city on foot, this city that would swallow me whole like a snake in its mouth if i'd let it, full-circle. if i'd give it the chance i walked over the water (sky sucking down towers) again, i can save you. as neon signs are my witness -- all day they asked if i was sick so i laughed and i lied through the gap in my teeth and later, later i gave without taking by accident even ! & oh you should love me NOW, you should be so lucky. i am not too pure but simply too much. i was watching her down on the floor, they were calling for my skin for more skin than the screen & you should see me here as in my element as fire. burning everything at your stake at your side. and you should see me, dirty & lying like i had more than this, i mean more than my own skin to save, watching her face in the dark. but what you don't know could kill your chances so keep watching me, baby, i'm brighter, i am six beers over my chipped tooth, my recycling-bin fashion and seventeen cigarettes. i am despite you fists up for the unfamiliar, i am your early-morning reminiscing & your cross-coastal call. full-circle. i can save you. & the streets steam, my love, the low clouds open all over the saxophone on the side of the road & i will, rain-damp and absolute, i will knock you out.
