I Will Be Your Girlfriend was your least favorite? Really? That vid was such fun! I watch it to cheer get in a cheery mood sometimes. :-) And yes, shallow! Hello, it's Smallville! But I understand you started with a vision--Lois and Clark vid--and it may not have turned out how you intended.
Muses can be rather recalcitrant and unpredictable. I wrote some wild things this year and I learned to simply have fun with writing. It was an important lesson. I am not there with the vidding yet, I have much more fun watching than making vids, but I do want to keep in mind creating doesn't always have to be so serious. I nearly kept my muse in a coma trying way too hard this year.
It's possible to love vidding more and more every month while still finding that it never gets any easier. Say it ain't so? I'm going to pretend that's not true or I'd never continue!
When I come back to watching my own vids it looks like kindergarten, colour-by-numbers kind of stuff. I really want to produce something
( ... )
it may not have turned out how you intended Oh, no, I never really intended it to be more than it is--I just think it's the most mediocre of the bunch.
The Year of Vidding is coming, huh? that sounds exciting! ;) If I learn anything I will pass it on. Can't remember learning anything recently. Maybe that's my problem.
You are a crazy person. *g* Seriously, 'I Will Be Your Girlfriend', 'I Kissed A Girl' and 'Clint Eastwood' all make me giggle every time I watch them; they're clever and quirky and *funny*. I *really* don't think you need to worry about your grasp on humour. :)
Oh Bop, you underestimate yourself. Your humor totally shines through and you've had major vid achievements this year (New York magazine?! Come on now!)
I feel you on the effects front. But I have a bit of a block about them. I try to employ them sometimes because I'd like to have more sophisticated effects, but they usually look clunky and sloppy so I forego them in the end. I need that remedial vidder class too, so sign me up!
I really like the roundup. I want to post a vid and fic one, but I might be able to squeeze out another few before the year is up, so maybe I'll wait till January.
I hope you continue the vidding chats too in 2009, if you like to and have the time. They're always so thoughtful and prompt such interesting discussions.
I absolutely have had major achievements this year. What I didn't expect was to end the year feeling so dissatisfied with my vids myself. I think it reflects where I am now emotionally more than it reflects the vids themselves, if that makes sense. I have noticed that I get unhappy with my work before making another step forward--so I'm hoping it's part of a natural process of reviewing and improving.
Year roundups are great! I did wonder if I'd get out another vid but I think not.
I do want to continue the vid chats, yes! LJ seems really quiet at the moment so I'll probably wait until more people are 'back', but yes, I'd really like to get them going again.
I don't know how to get past the roadblock of lack of tech know-how--and lack of knowing what I don't know. i.e. I watch a lot of vids and still don't understand how the vidder knows when to use which effect where. I wish there was a school in remedial vidding. ;)
This might sound like a lame suggestion, but YouTube has a lot of really easy to understand tutorials on different aspects of vidding. I've seen people ask how a particular effect in a video is done, and get directed to the exact tutorial for it, so there are a lot of them around. But at the same time effects aren't everything, a lot of the transitions and effects that video programes provide just end up looking really clunky, so I don't think you should beat yourself up over not being comfortable with them. Your editing is fantastic, and that's the main thing :)
That is helpful, thank you! Anything is helpful! I will have a look on YouTube, definitely. I know effects aren't everything but I also feel like they're the wall I keep hitting in my vidding and I won't get past it until I get a better grasp of them. The hardest thing is knowing how to use them, not just how to make them.
I adore Paranoid Android. And Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying because it's so cute, even though I don't know the source. :) I'm totally looking forward to another year of your vidding.
