Gail took her time, broke Dinah down, then methodically, powerfully catapulted Dinah into the top tier of DCU martial arts champs. She can hold her own against Lady Shiva, Batman or Karate Kid now. Gail gave Dinah depth and dimension. Her choice to rescue Sin from her cruel training to become the next Lady Shiva was a defining moment for Dinah. It has opened the door to the next phase in her life. As a parent myself, I know how being a parent forces you to do some growing up yourself, even as it fills your life in ways you could never foresee. Gail Simone was the best thing to happen to Black Canary in sixty years, and I hope that my mini-series does justice to Gail's treatment of the character.
