...I really think you should be saying to him that you think he's 'back to the okay place' and all that.

And, it appears that I am too dangerous to be allowed out and about under my own freedom, and too useful to be allowed to rot in a cell. So, I get the third path.

he knows i think he's okay again. he was really nice to me during hogsmeade weekend and things and i told him so!

And as far as I can tell, it boils down to the following. As long as I make myself useful to them and at least let them believe that I'm keeping my nose clean, I don't have to stare at the inside of a cell or meet a Dementor or two on a more-than-casual basis. I slip up, it goes away.

I rather suppose you could say that, then.

Yes. They grounded me and assigned me a babysitter, who's apparently going to collect me tomorrow.

i suppose that's better than it could have been. i still think it isn't fair, though.

Of course it isn't fair. Honestly, if you expect things in this world, especially things from the government, to be fair then you have quite a painful learning process ahead of you, assuming anything is ever to actually make an impression upon you.

why don't they learn from mistakes too?

They don't have to.

Being in charge means you have power over other people.

And having power over other people means you can make mistakes...disappear...if you so choose.
