One quarter century down...

Hullo all! Here I am, coming to you live from my new apartment. Currently sitting on my new bed, typing on my (not really) new laptop, under the light of my new lamp. All sorts of exciting stuff! I suppose I technically could have done the new apartment post last week when I moved in . . . but I didn't. Better late than never, as they say. Meanwhile, on with the post!!

Overall I'm very happy with how things have worked out so far. The move went relatively smoothly, which was one of my biggest concerns. Unfortunately, one of the worries I kept having actually occurred. When we signed the lease in July, Ashley (my roommate) and I also bought some furniture, curtains, and an air-conditioning unit from the lady who was moving out. I kept worrying that all of it would be gone when we got here. Which it was. Apparently the former tenant forgot to make a note of the stuff that she had sold to us, so it just got pitched along with everything else she left behind. So at the moment we are lacking a dining table and chairs, and curtains. No air-conditioning unit either, but we have fans and the weather is cooling down anyway. The biggest pain is the lack of curtains. Which will hopefully be fixed this weekend, but at the moment is more than slightly irritating.

Other than that, tho, everything has gone well. All the furniture we do have fits and looks pretty good. Luck was on my side during the coin toss so I ended up with the bigger bedroom, which actually looks kind of empty at the moment. I never really thought about how much room a desk takes up. Instead of having one in my room, tho, we just have a common desk in the main area. So I have this big empty spot. Which will eventually be taken up by an electric piano, when I have enough money to buy a decent one...

Of course, the best part is that I now live less than 30 minutes away from work. Which means I can sleep in an extra hour and a half in the morning, and get home way earlier in the evening. The extra sleep will be more exciting once I get used to my new surroundings and start actually sleeping again, so that's something to look forward to...

In other news, now that I'm living in a new place, and it's finally starting to sink in that I'm not a student anymore (weeeeeeird), I'm finally getting around to the parts of my life I kept putting off. Which means that I'm trying to get back in the habit of writing more frequently, getting regular exercise (yay pool in my apartment!), and being more outgoing in terms of meeting people. So far I've succeeded at one of those (did I mention pool in my apartment?). I'm actually doing not too badly at the writing thing either, compared to last year, but that's not saying a whole lot. As for the "more outgoing" part, I'm actually taking steps to achieve that. So overall I'm relatively pleased with myself. I'm also retiring the pendant I've been wearing for the past... 6 years. It's kind of a symbolic thing that really only has meaning to me, but since this is my journal I'm making a note of it. I've been looking for something new for a while now, and finally found something that I like. Braved the whole online shopping thing, so hopefully it will be hear in short order and the official "new stage of life" moment can take place. Symbolism is important, after all...

The only other thing I wanted to mention is that I felt really proud of myself at work today. It was one of the days when I felt like I'm stating to get a handle on my job, which is very cool. I was in an extended meeting with people today, and we were discussing a list of statements that we're going to be using in a questionnaire. And I was actually very active in the discussion, and a number of my suggestions were used. Even more exciting: a press release I wrote last week (which is hopefully going out this week!) was actually kept more or less intact after being picked over by three people. So that's pretty damn cool.

And that's pretty much everything. Have a pretty good weekend coming up: playing football Saturday morning (lord help me), working a TFC game that afternoon, hopefully making dinner for my parents that evening, and then on Sunday watching football at Shawn's and then meeting with a friend of mine from university in the evening. Actually kind of funny (for me, anyway), she's taking RAP this year. Which means that I get to keep up on the gossip without having to deal with any of the drama. Sweet deal!

Really finished now. Hugs and howls to all.
