Syed Zubair Ahmed, a member of a matriarchal society in Northeast India called the Garo wrote in the New York Times February 18, 1994 "What do men want"
According to the article, a men's rights organization was founded. It says that women are overbearing and dominating.

Men complain: "We are sick of playing the roles of breeding bulls and baby-sitters." "We have no lines of succession. We have no land, no business."

one young Khasi female said, "We Khasis tend to underestimate the contributions of our fathers to the family. Our fathers do a lot, but the credit goes to the mothers."

Important questions and decisions are discussed among all clan members, and most Khasi men feel that their opinions are taken into consideration.

The elder men of the tribe support the fairer sex.
"The matriarchal system should not be changed, or it will destroy the moral values of the younger generation," said Glorence Syiem Malngiang, a tribal king in the East Khasi hill district subdivision of Mawsynram. "We shall see to it that the custom continues," he said. (Seema Hussain, The Week, India, Mar 21, 1999)

note : my intention is not to be condescending towards women or feminists - on the contrary i think it's ironic that in a female dominated society men are doing the same thing. i espescially find it interesting that they are citing to collapse of morals as a reason for not changing their societal structre - as did many women during the 50s and 60s.

others just said "that's the way it is"

clearly both ways are not the only way and neither is fair to the other sex
or to the members of the dominant sex who do not fit into the gender archetype of their society
