i wrote a poem for my AP english class, never getting to show it to daddy beforehe died.
i showed it mommy the morning of the wake during breakfast
and she started balling her eyes out and couldnt eat anymore.
then at the funeral home, it was on display with all the pictures, awards and articles about my dad.
people were asking once they went through the recieving line of the family, which one is brianne...... i loved her poems they were wonderful and others were crying over them
i really didnt think it was that great a poem when i wrote it,
it was just something to hand in to Mr Obidiah for a grade,
i couldnt think of anything to write so i wrote about daddy because hed been at work for a week straigh and i hadnt seen him since he left for work the week before and i missed him and i started thinking about how he spent most of his time there at the station, but i was alright with that...for several reasons, 1 being when he was at home he was overtired and moody and i hated to listen to him yell 2 he loved his work and it made him so happy and 3 he was helping others and keeping them safe 4 he trained and worked for it so hard. and otheres....
so my poem was read at daddy's funeral

“My Fireman”
Over worked and over tired
You take each call
As if your life depends on it.
Sacrificing time with those you love
To risk your life for the sake of saving others.
You do a great honor to us all,
And instill safety and comfort in our homes.
We put all our trust into you
And have faith that you will prevail and survive.
But sometimes, I’ll admit,
I fear for you;
When you don’t come home,
When you’re out on a call.
Every minute counts,
One small mistake could mean your life.
I lie awake at night and pray,
“God keep him out of harms way”.
But if you shall fall in the line of duty,
Just remember that you have people here who love you,
And who will honor you as a great Hero.
