so, the summer flew by. it was really fun though.
and i wasn't complaining when i had to go back to central :] haha
so i got to central on august 13th since i work at the front desk at my dorm which means we had to get here early to go through training. all i do is sit there and count money and give things to people such as toilet paper, garbage bags, key to the computer lab/weight room, pots and pans, stamps, envelopes, etc. so, training was not too difficult. and also we got paid for training :] and we get paid for every meeting that we have as a desk staff. the first one was like 2 hours long becasue we had to figure out our work schedule. the desk is open 24/7 and there is 16 of us. so we had to split it up evenly and make sure nobody has shifts that conlift with classes and all that. it was basically a fun time beacuse i like everybody that works at the desk :] so, in other words my job is awesome and i love it.
other than that, i'm also part of the hall council for my dorm. i'm the On The Fly representative which means i go to meetings on sundays at 6 and we talk about events that are going on around campus and then at our hall council meeting in the dorm which is tuesdays at 9:30pm, i tell all of the residents about upcoming events. i went to my first meeting tonight and they said that the weekend of Halloween, OTF members can go to Kentucky and meet famous comedians/singers/whoever and their "Agents" and set up appointments with them so that they will come perform at Central. We would leave on Thursday and come back Sunday. The university pays for everything except meals. And you get excused absences on thursday and friday....i don't like missing classes but i don't have classes on friday so really i would just be missing one day.....i think i'm going to do it!
i've been meeting some great people and making some awesome friends. i room with shelley which is awesome, and 2 freshmen who are also really cool. one is having a very hard time adjusting but i hope she makes it through the year.
Labor day weekend there was about 10 people that stayed here in my dorm, everybody else went home. It was like a ghost town, but really fun!
in the past few weeks i've done a ton of fun stuff:
played a lot of games including: scattergories, cranium, catch phrase, and the game of things. there's always like 5-10 people in our room and it's really fun
we play a lot of rock band/guitar hero, and i'm starting to be able to play on expert!
i've also gone to the movies. saw inglorious basterds (very good)
and went to the casino! when you go to the casino and sign up for a players card, you get $10 free to gamble with. and then if you go back another day and bring a friend and refer them to sign up for a players card, then you AND your friend get a free $10 to gamble with. you can do it over and over. last time we went, shelley won $52 and my friend casey won $42. i won nothing, but there's always a next time!
we got fish for our room- some goldish and a purple & blue beta! the beta lives alone in a bowl because he's so mean. but our goldfish have a cool light up tank.
as for classes, i'm taking
CHM 131 - Intro to Chemistry
BIO 240 - Intro to Conservation of Natural Resources
BIO 218 - Zoology
ECO 281 - The Economic Development of the Pacific Rim
they are really stressing me out. chem and econ are okay so far, i like conservation but 50% of our grade is based off of writing which i am not the best at. we have to write a 5-10 page paper about something and i picked the emerald ash borer but i don't know how i'm going to write that much on it.
also, zoology is known as one of the hardest classes on campus and i've only been in it for 3 weeks and i understand why. i have to write a huge paper for that class, too. econ...the teacher is just horrible...he forgets what he's saying all the time and everybody just laughs...it's kinda sad....i mean it's soo easy but we haven't had one assignment yet...and i'm just scared that our grade will be only based off of the tests, and what if they are hard? chem. is alright, it's 4x a week at 10am plus a two hour lab 1x a week.
Only taking 13 credits, but i'm glad.
