Too much

There is too much. I will sum up.

Two weeks ago yesterday, Alia and I were coming home from going shopping after Kindermusik. She fussed briefly then barfed everywhere. I mean all over herself and the carseat. Very icky. I got her home quickly, got her cleaned up and changed. Called the doctor. Doctor said it was some nasty stomach bug going around. I could expect 12-16 hours of yakking, followed by a fever of no more than 102, followed by diarrhea for 23-72 hours. Fabulous. Well, it went precisely as the doctor thought it would, and by Saturday morning she was feeling better - not great, but better. She goes to a friend's birthday party on Saturday afternoon. We headed out on Sunday to visit her cousin in NC. I started feeling pretty nasty. Got down there, I feel like crap. make it through the visit, cut it a bit short and head home earlier on Monday than planned because I feel like such crap. Had a great time making that drive back, I assure you.

Get home. I'm pretty messed up for a couple of days, and Alia gets a cold. Not a horrible one, but a cold. By Thursday of last week, she's running a fever. In to see the doctor on Friday. double ear infection - and a bad one. Great. Dose Alia up with antibiotics. any time we back off the tylenol, the fever returns. Yesterday I called the doctor, made an appt for today because I just wasn't comfortable with the non-progress.

Also received a quick lesson in a handy trick to dislodge small objects from a toddler's nose. For those who don't know this trick here is what you do. Let's say your toddler sticks a pea up her right nostril (no, i'm sure YOUR toddler wouldn't, but mine did). Hold the left nostril tightly closed with your finger. Breathe forcefully into her mouth as if you are giving rescue breathing. The pea will pop out like magic. If it is stubbornly lodged, it may take a few tries. Isn't that a neat trick?

Anyway... so we went to the doctor again this morning. The antibiotics had not only not made the infection better, but didn't seem to phase it. The infection was "significantly worse" according to our ped. SUPER. Ped decides not to mess around. We had the fabulous Roceph antibiotic shot in the office this morning. I assure you this was EXTRA popular with toddlers. NOT.

By the way... I looked Alia in the face before the shot, explained what was going to happen, and she wasn't happy about it, but she took the shot like a trouper. The nurse was amazed. "How old is she?"
"Not quite two."
"She understood everything you told her. That's so amazing!"

It makes me wonder about the mental faculties of the other kids these people see. Or, alternatively, about the communication skills of the parents.

On the plus side, Alia does seem to be feeling better after the antibiotic shot. We go back for a follow up on Friday. Here's hoping she is OVER this.
