LOL, I will never ever get tired of mocking this line. I can sort of see why Whedon and Greenwalt would be... proud of it. I'm sure it's one of those things that sounds cool in an abstract way.
I get that they were trying to paint a dark, dramatic picture of B/A - hinting that it won’t be a fairytale romance with a happy ending but destructive and tragic - but that line is just not something I see Buffy saying.
That's basically the problem. It's an instance of the authors inserting a -statement- into the mouths of their characters at the expense of believability.
