Good things about this episode: it finally introduces the Mayor, probably my favorite villain in the verse (if we don’t count Spike or Faith as villains). One of the things that the main plot centers on is really entertaining - Mr. Trick organizing “SlayerFest ‘98”, a contest to kill Buffy and Faith, which results in Buffy and Cordy fighting a ( Read more... )

Ooooh, thanks for writing out those pros and cons. The "always studying" bit is funny.

It's funny that Cordy is described as "manipulative" and "two-faced" when at other times she is portrayed (such as in "Earshot"), as the only person who honestly speaks her mind. Although perhaps the fact that she ruthlessly honest with some people (the people she looks down on) and not others (like boys she wants to go out with) explains that "two-faced" part.

Yeah, I don't really buy Cordy's explanation that "Tact is just not telling the truth", because she behaves that way just with some people - and even then it's not really an excuse, since there's a difference between telling the truth and being mean, like "Who gave you the permission to exist?" or the way she ignored Marcie but repeated her words as if they were her own jokes. Cordelia acted one way towards the people she saw as losers, or people she saw as competition, and those that she wanted to impress, like the high school jocks, the teachers, or the rich frat boys. She also apparently considered Harmony a sheep, but didn't tell her that until BBB, and she didn't tell any of her followers that she knows that they are too busy agreeing with her to pay attention to who she really is. And in this episode she's sucking up to everyone in school to get votes. So I'd say her sincerity is rather selective at this point.
