Title: Last Kiss, First Kiss
Author: Spam-monster
Parings: Max/Booster/Ted in varying combinations
Summary: "The first time Max kissed Booster he thoght it would be his last. Ted apparently did not think this was a good enough excuse." Everything turned out okay. Fluff happens.
Author notes: Was in the shower spacing out, had this idea, made myself write it. Someone on /coq thought it was good so I'm posting it here too. Was thinking of adding something about a threesome at the end, but I liked where it ended so I kept it. (But they totally had one later.)
The first time Max kissed Booster, he thought it would be his last.
Ted apparently did not think this was a good enough excuse.
“I thought I was going to die! He was the closest one around!” Not admitting he was the one Max had wanted to kiss the most at that point in time. The one he had to apologize to the most. One last hurrah before his grand heroic sacrifice that the White Guardian hadn’t let him have, instead bringing him back as himself this time and making him face up to everything he had done and not done.
“There were plenty of girls around!”
“Karen would have killed me, Bea would have set me on fire and then killed me, and if I kissed Tora then Guy would have killed me!” And they wouldn’t have let him, wouldn’t have looked at him with understanding and pleading and horror and regret. Should he regret having kissed him?
“…Well, yeah, but…”
And here he was arguing with Ted like nothing had happened, like the worst thing he had done in the last few years was kiss Booster. *Well, it was the worst thing he had done of his own free will, he guessed.* Like everything was back to normal, and Max didn’t know if that was better or worse.
“…That’s not an excuse!” Ted, who was alive.
“Ted, calm down. It’s not a big deal, really.” Booster, who didn’t hate him.
“What do you mean, not a big deal! He kissed you in front of everyone!” Ted who was alive and yelling at him and ALIVE. Everyone was alive. Max’s head was spinning.
Booster and Ted were arguing. Max interrupted.
“Well, I’ll just even things out then.” He said, smirking, calm and confident even though he wasn’t.
The first time Max kissed Ted, it was to prove some ridiculous point or to mess with him or to return Booster’s kiss to its rightful owner or because he was alive, they were alive and they were going to be okay.
It wasn’t bad, although Ted looked at him like he was crazy. He probably was.
“…What? The…uhhhh…I…what?”
“See, now we’re even, right?”
“Ummm…” Ted looked at Booster, trying to get help. His face went even more funny. Max glanced over at Booster as well and saw that he was blushing. Well. That was interesting. He smirked more confidently now. Knew what came next, as if it had been scripted for him.
“Well, we’re not entirely even yet I suppose.” He backed up a little, let them have some room.
The first time Ted kissed Booster in front of everyone, it was because Max made him.
Ted was about to protest when he saw the look on Booster’s face. Booster pushed his cowl off, stroked Ted’s hair, looked at him with love and pleading and desperation and everything he was.
“…Well,” Ted smiled, “it’s not the first time we’ve embarrassed ourselves in front of everyone.”
The second time Ted kissed Booster in front of everyone, it was because he wanted to. Because they were in love, and they admitted it.
Max just smiled, a genuine smile, the same smile he had given Booster after he had kissed him before he ran away for the last time, and joined in the cheering and clapping and I Knew Its.
“Looks like I finally did something right.” He said to himself.
And when Ted and Booster genuinely smiled thankfully at him and pulled him in for a hug, he didn’t regret it.
