I Am A Huge Nerd

Feb 26, 2010 06:00

Here let me show you why.

Continuing my apparent series of Earth 11 studies, (and ridiculous amounts of thought I've put into this, geez)

First a line up:

(Changing your fringe does not a new look make, Booster)

Some quick summaries;

Ted: Same basic background, though her body image issues start a bit early; with the advent of puberty, any ounce of fat that makes it into her system and decides to stay, builds on her hips and thighs, which is a bit of a blow for a gymnast. Being a GIANT NERD doesn't help the problem any either. Things essentially continue on unchanged from regular continuity, except when it comes time to get shot in the face. That is, NOT get shot in the face.Booster is distracted by something shiny when it comes time to figure out who has been messing with Kord's money, it blows up in her face, not her friends and as a result Booster is the one who jets off to her death.

Grief stricken, Ted retires after the events of infinite crisis (I would go into more detail but I don't remember enough of the damn thing to even BEGIN) and moves on to moping around the house a lot, rebuilding her business, tinkering with different gadgets, flirting with Oracle (Barnaby, or Barney Gordon who is hella foxy since he is essentially young Jim Gordon), long (and some tmes close) distance mentoring for the new Blue Beetle, Jimena. She occasionally still dons the suit and gear to kick bad guy butt, but not nearly as much as she used to since her best friend's death.

Ted fears the worst when she joins the battle of Blackest Night, seeing old friends resurrected as internet troll zombie creatures is bad enough, imagining Booster becoming one of those THINGS was even worse.... except she never came up.

Then Ted realized someone had been in her genetically encrypted lab...

Rip: is exactly the same, really. I dunno, I can't think of anything that would change personality/history wise. Why is she alive and not time deleted after Booster kissed a bullet? Well...

Booster: Didn't actually kiss a bullet! But I'm getting ahead of myself. In the way off future, Michelle played women's hockey (what can I say, I'm Canadian, women's hockey is boss) but ended up throwing games so.... you know the rest. In the present she's regarded as some what of a vapid idiot, much like her male counterpart, except she'd probably be up for more explicit cuss words for not being the pinnacle of feminine charm and grace, like Superwoman, for example. But she's from the future (where women probably act at least somewhat differently), and a hockey player, so she doesn't really pay it any mind. Backstory over, lets get down to how she managed to escape Max

Right after this collection of doodles.

(disregard the 'Goldstar' early drafts etc)

So the year is 200X, Blue Beetle is in the hospital, someones up to no good and she's the only one who can do anything to stop them! Next thing you know, Maxine Lord has pulled a gun on her, kind of disappointed Ted wasn't the one who came and shoots her in the face. More specifically the visor thats pretty hard to shatter, the bullet doesn't really do much but crack the thing and Booster takes a tumble backwards, cracks her head on the stone floor and passes out. Kind of embarrassing. She gets hauled off to the incinerator and just as she's being tossed in, Rip time-yoinks her out of danger.

AND SO BEGINS HER STINT AS TIME COP which is mostly unchanged, including the lessons about solidified time, she HAD to disappear at that point, Ted HAD to be the one manning the computer or super bad ramifications would occur, one of which was Ted dying, the other of which was BAD END to infinite Crisis as well as people tearing up the time stream without Booster there to fix it. She gets the OK from alternate timeline Ted to hide conceal her status among the living for the sake of everyone's futures, and everything continues pretty standard to what we know. Though, she can't help herself dropping in on her friend every once in a while, leaving hints of her presence, checking to see how everything is going, it's not terribly irresponsible if she's feeling nostalgic and Ted manages to figure it out thanks to being a super genius.

Eventually.

Jimena: JUST WANTS TO BECOME A DENTIST GODDAMN. Though having Miss Kord, Dan Garrett and Peacemaker around as mentors is pretty cool too.

One final WIP line up and I'm done.

I mostly enjoy reworking costume designs (Super excited to see Project Rooftop is back up and running) so I end up thinking up these little summaries while working, the more time I spend drawing a character, the more I think about them, so thats why Rip and Jimena's are a little bare.

Since I've gone and made this post, let us discuss alternate realities, your take on Earth 11, what would be the social ramifications of having the earth's mightiest heroes as women? How will Ted react upon finding Booster alive and well? If you agree with my continuity, that is, if not, how do events unfold in your mind?

Also I may or may not be working on an all too related mini-comic for practice.
