One of the Big Damn Lists has been misused, but can't find it in it to care.

Title: Odds On Favorite
Fandom: Justice League
Characters: Dan Garrett/Ted Kord
Prompt: "I'm drunk." (un_love_you) (Okay, so it's pushing it, since there's no Booster, but gimmie a break! It's never gonna get finished at this rate!)
Word Count: 616
Rating: PG-13
Author's Notes: So it's fleur_de_liz's birthday and she demanded Dan/Ted. I asked how creepy she wanted it. She said OMFG no don't make it creepy, you sicko! (I am of course paraphrasing. ...A lot.) So I grumbled and grouched and finally came up with this, which is kind of sweet. (I will still never be able to get Dan's creepy "you gon' get raped!" expression out of my head. I know it was just because the art was crap, but it was still buckets full of creeptastic.)

Odds On Favorite

Three against one is bad odds. Especially if the one has been slacking off on exercising in favor of studying. Even more so if the one is, admittedly, a bit tipsy from slacking off on studying in order to stave off an impending meltdown with the help of various forms of alcohol.

On the other hand, it's excellent odds for the three. Especially when a switchblade and a length of chain is added to the mix.

The odds skew drastically, however, when a mystically-powered superhero is introduced to the equation.

"Leave him alone," the deep voice intones. The sound of his boots hitting the pavement echos through the alley as he lands.

The trio of thugs exchange glances. How intelligent they are depends on their next course of action. If they share even a single brain cell between them, they will realize that a man who flies and has no problems with butting in on a clearly dangerous situation is probably more than equipped to handle them.

They charge him.

The man they had previously been accosting leans against the grimy wall and watches the scene with something like lazy awe. His head feels soft and fuzzy, and the adrenaline that had flooded his body upon being cornered is fading to nothing more than a dream. The blue-clad superhero disarms and puts down the thugs without even seeming to break a sweat.

He isn't even breathing heavy when he steps over the unconscious men and strides deeper into the alley. Stopping in front of their former victim, the hero asks, with genuine concern, "Are you alright, son?"

The man appears to think it over for a moment, then shrugs his shoulders to push himself away from the wall. He wobbles for a second, which brings him closer to the superhero than traditionally acceptable between two men. Then his hands come up, one on the hero's shoulder and one on his chest, before he leans in to express his gratitude with a kiss.

The lips under his are shocked immobile, but a faint tease of tongue briefly softens them.

Breaking the kiss, the man blushes and ducks his head slightly, running a hand through his hair. "Ted," he says, smiling sheepishly. "My name's Ted."

The hero hesitates uncertainly, the kiss unbalancing him in a way no fight or foe had previously managed. "I...I'm the Blue Beetle."

Ted grins, laughter in his eyes as he says, "I know, I follow you in the news."

If the Blue Beetle is further unsettled by that, he manages to not show it. "Are you alright, Ted?"

"I scraped my palms a little on the wall," Ted replies with a shrug, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jacket. "I'll put something on 'em when I get home. Thanks for the assist, by the way."

The Blue Beetle smiles at him. "It was my pleasure."

The smirk on Ted's face suggests he wants to make a joke about other things that could be a pleasure, but he refrains. Instead, he simply leans in again to capture the man's mouth in a parting kiss. This time the hero kisses back.

Ted steps back and then turns to make his way to the mouth of the alley. He pauses beside the thugs, still unconscious, before glancing at them and then glancing back at the Blue Beetle. His smile is almost affectionate when he says, "You were just as amazing as I imagined you would be."

Ted is already out of the alley and has turned the corner before Dan, hidden in the armor of the Blue Beetle, realizes he doesn't know if the man was referring to the fight or the kiss.
